So evidently I donated some inventory to the local swap-meet this week. I walked up to my just purchased '14 and noticed the tire is gone. My 1st thought was, this thing is under lock and key! I take another look below and find the cable cut right at the winch...

 

So, 1st, I appologize if there are other threads about this.

 

suggestions? claim under insurance? replacement cost? preventative measures?

 

thanks so frustrating when you buy something nice and someone has to ruin it...

Claim it on your insurance.

 

Watch where you park.

 

Loop a chain and lock through the spare.

I'm sure ins would apply provided u have the proper coverage and deduct. Still, sucks. If it isn't yours, leave it be people!

I have a $500 deductible policy. My luck, this would be a $499 replacement...or maybe $501 just to piss me off more and have to do some paperwork.

Thats why my old truck had a very sensitive alarm on it with proximity sensor..

 

First thing i would do is create a police report. Once and a while these guys are caught and when they search there property your spare could be there. Fat chance but main thing is to make the police aware of it in your area.

 

As for an insurance claim, Thats up to you but for a steel spare / tire / new winch cable you likely will be right around $500 which most people deductables are. And even if it was more its going to be a hit against your insurance. Some insurances will cancel you after 2.

 

Personally i would report it to police, Buy a new one, And as stated wrap a high tensile chain around it that standard bolt cutters cant go thru, or a very thick cable that would be tough for bolt cutters to penetrate.

So frustrating... $250 deductable, so Il take the advice and file the report. The truck is so knew, I wouldn't know the spare if it were in my living room.

 

Go to dealer, or buy parts online??

Junk yard? Should be similar to the gmt900s also then you do t have to file an insurance claim, probably pick one up for less than $100

Wednesday morning three of my neighbors and I woke up to all four of our tires gone on our trucks. They left the spare.

 

I am not sure why someone would steal a spare of the 14's. They are a piece of crap. You sure the cable just didn't break at a weak point. They are an odd size rim and size, I would replace it with a decent tire and rim.

They are not a weird size, very common actually. The spare rims are not fancy, most likely to keep costs low, and maybe so people will be less likely to steal them. :ughdance: But I know a few people on here actually really like the looks of the spares.

 

On my 2006 the winch jammed up, took the winch off and chained + locked the spare down in the bed.

They are 17's black and really ugly. I had to use mine a while back and just looking at what GM uses I was worried it wouldn't last very long.

 

My 86 had the exact same rim and tire as a spare that the truck had. Back then the 4x4 came with decent rims and oversize tires. Steal 4 and a thief would have a full set. Someone stole my spare before I had it 6 months. GM either caught on to the thieves and changed or GM just got cheap and started using cheap spares. I would bet on GM just got cheap.

I bet 3 other trucks are missing them and the shmuck is driving around with them now.

      I can only guess as well that something was clicked on that brought you to the half ton choices by accident. By all means try again and chose the 3500 and sort out that its the cab and box configuration you want and choose four wheel drive ( rather obvious to have a transfer case ) and to make sure the dually isn't chosen. I find or at least did a couple of years ago when I was sifting through the options that it would sometimes jump ahead after choosing the series of truck and in this case 3500 and skip some of the other initial configuration choices and have to watch the heading bar and sometimes back up by choosing the first in the series of option break downs. I think sometimes the computer will remember items that were last chosen and skip over the first part. Anyway go through it all and depending on the trim level chosen and I think the LT is one that may fall into that where the option of having the 4 high auto transfer case can be chosen, where as a High Country doesn't show that option as it just comes with the fancier ( not necessarily better though in terms of potential problems ) transfer case but for sure both transfer case choices are equipped with high and low range in the HD truck segment. Like Newdude said who works at a dealership, its the half tons that are the ones that will come with the single speed unless certain options or trim levels are chosen that add the two speed transfer case but as your looking at an HD, you don't have to worry about that hot mess.    One item that at least didn't show up and not sure if it does yet or not in the HD options on the manufactures pubic website is the upfitter in cab switch option if one is desiring that. Unfortunately its not wired in at the factory but the panel with the switches is on the dash but the wiring harness to be installed gets tossed under the rear seat to be installed by whomever after the fact to complete the installation.

      Yesterday we brought home a 6yr  old Havanese dog from a nearby SPCA.  We've had her for 24 hours and we are delighted with how well she is adjusting to her new home.  It  was a huge decision to adopt a dog at this stage in our lives but we believe we made the right choice!   it was reported that her first 6 years were ones of neglect.  I think she's already realizing her life is going to get a whole lot better...  so is ours!

      No doubt, I definitely agree with you. However, considering the 6.2 and 3.0 have been catastrophically failing with very little miles, I figured I would put trouble free. I’m at 18,4xx and still not a single issue.

      It’s never dry here but it gets hot. My 4 vehicles I keep at home drive an 18 mile loop. One 6 days a week. Two about 3 days each and one once a month. Only one goes on trips about 4 times a year 1000 to 2000 miles each time. One 26 years old gets driven once a month for 22 years. One 14 years old goes 6 days a week. The other two are recent at 2 and 4 years. All are performing normal no extra service other than that would be half of recommended or severe service in the maintenance manual. No extra water or steam out the exhaust or premature plug wear. I would consider an 18 mile loop would be enough. So apparently once a month at 18 miles for 22 years has kept the collector car running well. About 45 minutes a month.
