Shorter antenna??

It's the plastic piece that surrounds the antenna is likely your issue. It's not allowing the Antenna to line up on the treads correctly because it's slightly off center. Pop the plastic piece loose and then try when it's all lined up. If it still doesn't work, you got a messed up antenna with the wrong... or bad threads

Is it that big of deal to cut 1-inch off the top of the radio antenna? That's all I have to cut off so that it doesn't hit my garage opening at home.

After you cut it, maybe just touch it up with some black paint so it doesn't rust?

so im guessing no one else has dremeled, ground off the factory one to a desired length, sprayed it with black paint, then topped it off with a rubber valve cap?

I am running a shorter antenna from AllSales Manufacturing, comes with many adapters. Had no problems getting it to fit, quality product.

I ended up getting the shorty to fit, but the reception was horrible. I returned it and just cut a few inches off the stock one. The rubber valve cap idea fits good, just put a little glue on the end so it stays on. There is a slight dif in the reception, but it's not bad. The shorty in my opinion is a waste of money.

Both of my all my past and current trucks I have moved antenna under the hood. It reduces reception a small bit but with xm and my cell phone it doesn't matter to me and looks better.

I know it's a pain in the butt and unattractive but it is a nice low overhead warning indicator!

I think that is the only reason I haven't gotten a shorter antenna for mine. If I don't hit the antenna I won't hit anything in parking garages.

well I asked earlier about cutting it, and I did end up cutting 1.5 inches off mine and didn't notice any radio reception issues so far. Also it still sticks up higher than cab, but no longer hits my garage door opening at home.

Exactly my thought as well... I have Yakima racks on my ARE Z series cap that are about an inch shorter than the antenna. Call it an early warning system! LOL

Cravenspeed stubby or atennax shorty?

I got a craven speed stubby. Everyone compliments me on how good it looks. It's a lot shorter than it looks in the pics on their website. Reception is definitely not as good as factory but I usually listen to xm or pandora anyway. My garage door is happier.

Seems the factory antenna is sliiiightly higher than the roof of the truck. As someone to parks in metropolis parking garages on reasonably frequent occasion, I can kinda see where this is an advantage. I'd rather whack the antenna than the roof LOL! I've always wondered if that variable went into the design process.

That said, yeah I'll probably change out to a stubby soon.

I bought the Cravenspeed Stubby but I couldn't get it screwed on all the way. My thread has some blue Loctite from the factory antenna and I can't get it off. The Stubby is smooth at the bottom compared to the hex shape of the factory antenna, so I'm not able to use a wrench to screw the Stubby on. I might try the Antennax 7-inch because it looks like I will be able to use a wrench on it.
