the diodes are directional make sure you are testing both ways to see if you have it installed the opposite way. also making sure even though you placed it into the sockets its getting metal to metal contact!

BRN26 to PNK26 (there are 27 on PNK), on the 2014s and newer, this forum.  You will need to find a wiring diagram or check with other 2011 owners.  PGamboa may have a diagram for yours already.  I downloaded and scoured the PDF for 2011 electrical build, could not find the information for jumpering your cargo lights and reverse lights.

That was what i was going to check next, i think it is the right way just not touching one side. just wanted to see if there was another thing i missed. first time using a diode :lol:

Daneal,  I attached a picture of my Reverse/Cargo connection.  Make sure to also push them in at least 1/4"-1/2".  If you did have the diode backwards, then your reverse lights will come on with the cargo switch.  Also, if you are only going cargos on with reverse, your cargo light switch will also light up in reverse.  Freaked my son out one night, and for a short second, me.  I used the smallest phillips tip jewelers screwdriver I have to create a passage for the wire on the diode down along side the pins/wires I was inserting the diode into.  Pushing the diode wire in can be a little bit of a PITA, without creating a "tunnel."

I don’t think I’ll be messing with it, I guess it’s been like that for a while cause everything still works as it always has.

True..could always put a little liquid tape on the open ones at least that would close it up..just a thought..

The upfitters guide says J302 under the left instrument cluster... That is not really too helpful as there is a mile of bundled wire under there....

 

I REALLY want to switch the use of these leds with a SPDT so they are Normal/Off/Reverse. I have a more complex but more useful control of my cargo lights operated by my backup lights and a latching timer circuit but that is only for my bed cargo lamps, as I cant find where I can turn off those annoying mirror LEDS separate from the high mount cargo light (which I would also like on with my circuit)

I know this may be a few months late, but I found a link to the GM Upfitter site, and it has every wiriring diagram, and explanations that you could probably want. I have a 2016 2500HD LTZ, so all of my page references are for my wiring diagrams, but they should get you close. 

 

PG & Description:

46 - Center Mount High Stop Lamp (CMHSL)

- - - Fed from X61A jct box, X3 connector, slot 7. 

49 - DQS Cargo Lamps

- - - J302 is the harness connector that goes from the X61A jct box, and splits to the left/right door jamb connectors (X500 & X600). The mirror cargo lamps are fed from X61A, connector X1, slot 17 (WH/VT wire). 

- - - Those two pages should give you options. If you follow the WH/VT wire back from the door jambs, you should be able to find a tie in point to isolate the mirror cargo lamps from the high mount. The diodes, relays, and wiring are up to you. LOL

 

292 - Power and Signal Distribution (beginning)

307 - Passenger Compartment Left Harness

405 - Master Component Locations

864 - BCM, X1 connector, goes through...

(X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7)

877 - BCM, X7 connector.

Thank you STKR, but I looked all over and tried to even use a "fox and hound" but I cant find that J302 that I need to access. I think my next best bet would be to go to the dealer and see if the service writers might have a clue. They sure pack stuff tight in these modern trucks ;-)

Anything with a “J” and some #s will mean a jumper and/or splice off of a main harness. So it may be easily visible. I found this out on a ground distribution I was looking for. Upfitter called out a Jxxx and found that to be a ground splice that was wrapped in a harness. Had to unwrap it to see it.

I just have to say thanks to the OP and the rest. Just did this on my 2017. Used a piece of single-strand 24ga hookup I had laying around. 

 

I got a nice set of LED backup and cargo replacement bulbs from eBay (link will be below), right after I picked the truck up because (esp in the rain) at night my backup camera was useless. They helped, some. I hit the seller up (had one of the plate lights go out) and asked about some brighter reverse lamps, and for an extra cost he shipped me a pair to try. Much better, and then when combined with the cargo lamp hack found here, it's almost as bright behind the truck in reverse as in front!

I know it's been a while since anyone posted on this topic, but does anyone know what the part # would be for the bed light harness, not the led lights just the harness, for a 2018 Silverado 1500 crew cab? Or even better would be if anyone knew what the part # is for the plug under the truck so I can wire in my own lights. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The part number(s) that you are looking for are listed in one of these, think it was in the LONG one, "LED Under Rail Bed Lighting."

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.  
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
