How much clearance do the LMZ fans need? I have FXR's in my truck already, but just ordered some LMZ's. Lucky me, I am having my truck repainted here in about a week because my paint is falling off.

Anyways, while it's being painted, I plan to bring my lights home and work on a few things. I was looking to make my own cap using the factory one. I was just curious as to how much room with the FXR in the housing there is when the LMZ bulb is in.

check out post 221 in this thread. I took a measurement of the LMZs sticking out of the FXRs. I also know that when used in the stock projector the back of the bulbs is right up against the headlight cap. Not sure where it will be with the FXR in the housing

Well the specs say 9v minimum operating voltage. They draw about 3.45 amps @ 12v. They have a constant current driver at 11-30v. I get all the numbers, minus the constant current driver. May give them a call and see if lifespan or any other problems can arise before diving in for the update. Need to see what the new voltage being sent to them is after the update I suppose.

any updates on this?

EDIT: looks like someone is already making a knock off LMZ

EDIT #2:

Morrislee actually found these earlier today

Supposedly the dealer ordered the bulbs, supposedly. I've emailed the service writer a couple times this week to get some kind of update with no luck. Going to ride by there on my way home from work tomorrow to see what's up.

I will say the guys that already had the TSB completed have had some amazing before and after pics. I really can't see how this couldn't help these bulbs out any as the replacement bulbs look pretty damn good.

Thanks. I read the post, must have just over looked that. The LMZ's shipped yesterday, will be here on Thursday. I will try to make sure I get a comparison shot of the LED vs HID in the FXRs. Even with the FXRs and HIDs... My Rigid D2's still blow them out of the water.

Has anyone tried the Harborled version of these bulbs. They claim 3200 lumens. I know a few members here said good things about their light bars. Theres a vid on their instagram page. https://instagram.com/harborled/

I haven't seen anyone mention them. The lumens on the vled are 4500.

I was just letting my mind wonder today. I'm no light expert, and was hoping someone else may have some more thoughts or answers on this.

The oem projectors are made for halogen lights and HID's suffer when put into them. The fx-r/morimoto/etc. are designed for HID, and thus perform better than the halogen projectors with HID in them. I know the quality of parts has a role in this, but are the projectors not designed for different bulbs and whatnot?

Are there projectors designed for LED lights? If so, would those not perform better with these bulbs based on the logic above regarding performance? I know some of the newer cars are running LED, but the ones I've seen have several individual lights (Audi is what I'm referring to). Are there any single bulb LeD projectors out there we may be able to retro with better results?

Does anyone have any experience with these?

I have a GMC Sierra SLE. I currently have the TRS HID kit but have already had a bulb burn out and I am thinking of going back to stock because I don't want to deal with headlight bulbs going out all the time. I've been reading the forums and VLED seems to be the route to go but I have some amazon cash saved up so was going to give these a try. Specs are below. Also if anyone has them let me know.

Thanks

I'm not sure if anyone has found a way to make the LMZ bulbs work with the SLE yet because of the difference in the DRL's.

Even though the longest any of us have had the lmz's installed has not been that long, I will say that the only real big problem posted has been figuring out how to adjust them (and I think one member had a bad bulb that they replaced for him). Time will tell on the longevity/reliability of them, so far I'm still glad I ditched the TRS Kit and went this route based off all the problems others are having on the HID thread.

You may wan to contact the manufacturer of those bulbs you linked to see if they will have similar compatibility issues with the SLE as the LMZ bulbs do (or did if there is a fix for it now).

Also, the new oem bulbs for the headlight fix were ordered by my dealer for sure on Monday. Seems like some have been told they are on back order. I'm going in for scheduled maintenance this coming Tuesday. I'm going to try and talk them into doing the BCM update even if the bulbs haven't arrived. I may or may not have luck with this, as the document states bulbs and update must be done at the same time. I'll report back next week.

I think the way around the SLE's DRLs is the same way that you have to get around it with HIDs, those with an SLE will have to run a wire harness to bring full power to the bulbs.

Also in response to your other post, I don't really think that it matters 100% what you put into a projector (ie you put an HID into a halogen projector, etc) but I do think it will play a small role, but none significant. I think what really matters is what projector you use. By that I mean if you use a nice quality projector that should come in a $50K truck and not these crappatory projectors that GM put in.

If you look back at the pictures I posted, I put the LMZs into an FXR, a projector designed for HIDs but damn did that LMZ perform and it was leaps and bounds better than the OEM projector! I'm trying to patiently wait till spring break to install my lights but those tests I did are making it so hard to wait.

Yea Mike I was really really liking the tests you posted up. I'm waiting for you to get it all retroed so I can use your directions lmao!!!

I didn't think the type of projector thing was really a big deal, I was just letting my mind roam and thought I'd post it lol. I've been looking hard at the FX-R, just won't have any time for a while to do anything with them if I buy them, so I have just saved the coin for the future when I can actually do something with them. I hate to buy parts and have them just collect dust. Of course that's kind of the pot calling the kettle black, as I've had the bilsteins sitting in the back seat for a few weeks now and just haven't got around to scheduling an install lol.

My LMZs will be here tomorrow :) Tomorrow night, i'm going to take out the Drivers side HID and put the LMZ to get comparison shot of the output.

Mike, Where did you find the best orientation and depth of the LMZs in the FXR? Would be nice to have somewhere to start, looks like it's going to be a pain in the ass to get the bulb secured in the FXR while the headlight is in the truck.

Has anyone used 3M gortex patches that TRS sells? I bought some to use on my modified caps and maybe the housing somewhere to hopefully let it breathe.
