I have a 2014 with HD radio, and it really enhances the quality of the sound on stations that have it.

I wonder why GM discontinued it? Licensing fees or something?

Lack of adoption. It's a dead format.

I dont think it is a dead format, a lot of stations are moving to it. I bet it is license fees and the extra equipment costs that caused the drop.

The only HD radio stations I can pickup where I live are a couple PBS stations. When I go to Minneapolis I start to pickup a lot more. I do notice a slight improvement in quality when it switches over.

I think the only problem was the crappy reception on fringe areas. The hardware and licensing fees were minimal. The radio has a hard time shutting off the HD station to play the normal FM one when in fringe areas is the biggest reasons. I love HD radio, but when you have been listening to mostly commercial free XM for years it's hard to go back.... It sounds WAY better when you have the signal though.

It really does sound better. I have upgraded my system substantially, and HD radio makes a difference.

My '14 HC has had nothing but problems with reception of the HD channels in the Houston,TX area. They've realized that their product is crap. GM offered me one year of free sirius, one year? Guess they think i'll only listen to the radio for one year. Looking at the new F150 now, their radios work great.

i listen to only HD radio. yes there are times that it looses reception but I would say 90% of the time I have great reception. I listen to sub channels which are obviously only hd and are commercial free to boot! if GM does not figure out how the HD radio stuff works and get their radios to get better reception before it's time for me to buy another truck it's really going to be hard for me to go back to regular radio.

Kind of a side not, I had a 15 Silverado LT for a loaner while my truck was getting some stuff fixed and it did not have HD radio and it sounded terrible, had a lot of static and the sound quality was just not there. the signal continued to go in and out.... I can understand how people get frustrated with that. I guess I got lucky and have no issues with my HD radio.

Incorrect. Adoption rate is actually very high, especially in high density areas. We probably have 20+ HD radio stations in Houston alone. The reason GM dropped it in the Silverado and Sierra is that they just couldn't get the reception right. For some reason, the makers of the radio can't figure out how regular radio works, much less HD. So instead of dropping the vendor, GM just discontinued the option to avoid the headaches. Hopefully, they find another vendor who knows how this works since my 2012 F-150 and 2015 Toyota Highlander works with HD flawlessly.

How do I know when HD radio works? Does it mean it is working when I can pause the FM Radio station I am listening on? Or is there an indicator I am looking?

The yellow "HD" will appear next to your station when your signal is good... greyed out when not working.. I hate the reception of my radio. Its balls. My wife's kia has 50x the HD reception and never goes in and out.
