idnative1948 Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Tired of reading up on reviews, so wondering if y'all have had any experience with them. Wanting to get something for our three week road trip.
patriot Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Garmin's pretty much the best there is in stand-alone GPS.
SteveBBB Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I recently bought one and love it. I also purchased a dashboard suction mount from ebay for $3.50 that will allow me to stick it pretty much anywhere on the dash. Here is a pic where I ended up mounting it, also a link to dash mount. http://www.ebay.com/itm/400589599026?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
8.1HD/ALLISON Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 +1 love mine. Lifetime updates are nice.
Silverado4x4 Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Love mine also. I bought the 52LM because it was the cheapest and I don't need all that fancy stuff on the more expensive ones. Life time maps also. Looks like the one SteveBBB has.
OldHobo Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Bought the Garmin 1450 LMT three years ago and love it. Used the suction cup to mount it on one of those round, weighted pads which allows me to readily move from one vehicle to another, and also to easily remove it from view when I'm not using it.
Mike-1000 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I use my phone now (android) but I use to have a Nuvi and really liked it. You want life-time maps and I'm not sure you can even get one without them these days. The more money you spend the more features you get but I think you would be happy with any Garmin model. Mike
idnative1948 Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Thanks Mike- I don't do the smartphone so is partial reason for going with the GPS. Drove all over today and played with them in the stores and finally we made the decision to go with the Nuvi 2597LMT because it is the newer technology and if I end up with a smartphone, the unit is Bluetooth. Mike-1000 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Besides helping you get where you are going they are just fun to play with. For some reason I was always checking my altitude.. Glad you found one you like. Mike
MikeNH Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Garmin is by far the best. I currently have a TomTom issued to me from work and I hate it.
&CDFiXER% Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Like em' so well I have bought three over the years. Gave the oldest to her sister and it is STILL running, just does not have LM. The other two have LM or LMT. Paid anywhere from $149 to $49, all have 4" wide screens at least, maybe more.
BobHancock Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Garmin is the standard. I have BMW Motorrad units that I use on my motorcycle. It's superb, which causes dismay at how crappy the Chevy GPS is. Why does Chevy do this? For a few extra bucks they could put a Garmin unit in that space and we'd have a much better product. If you must choose between a dash mount Garmin and a Chevy in dash unit, go with the Garmin.
Wintersun Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 I bought the Garmin 760RV GPS and I can set it based on whether I am towing or have only the truck and the total length of truck and or trailer so it selects the best route based on the limitations of my rig. It also mounts above the dash and I put it all the way to the left so I can see the road easily and it is a lot more convenient to operate and monitor than a GPS in the dash. I have the in-dash navigation on my two cars and I prefer the Garmin on the dash. Garmin also comes with lifetime map updates. The Nuvi are good for world wide travel as you can now download base maps for South America and for Europe and do town to town routing with your Garmin.
