Aluminum bodied Silverado ?

I would rather have them build them out of polymers like the old Saturns. The one I owned was tough as hell. Its just that the word "PLASTIC" hits a nerve with some folks. I couldn't even imagine the advancements that have been made since I had mine in the late 90s. Best thing, No door dings EVER!!. I can't stand a door ding when looking down the side of these trucks. I'd rather have the whole side caved in. LOL.

The bed on these GM trucks is already the bottom feeder in terms of durability. Aluminum will be a crack factory.

On a related Subject, Korea has developed a steel-aluminum alloy. The mechanicals are touted to be similar to Titanium as well as the weight/volume. It should make for some revolutionary manufacturing if the hype comes to fruition. Light, strong, and cheap.

Carbon fiber might be a better way to go if they can get the cost down. It's MUCH lighter than aluminum (or aluminium) and extremely strong.

According to the managers at my local dealer the current rumor is there will be a new body style introduced next year for the 2017 model year. I would assume this will also mean a full aluminum body like Fords current F150. This time line seems to fit everything we've read over the last two years about a 2017 to 2018 year model aluminum truck.

It wouldnt surprise me as I have said before GM sort of missed this boat on this current model. They came out with something that only matched the current market, and upon release were immediately trumped by others.

Cool! So our fist glimpse of the new truck will probably be Detroit auto show 2016!

The raptor is supposed to have the jointly developed 10 speed in 2017 model year so the next generation whole have that too. And hopefully available on ALL trims.

Carbon fiber has gotten very cheap and the mold was always the costly part, so the hood, fenders, and doors would be cheap and easy to skin while saving more weight.

The K2 was supposed to be aluminum, but GM's financial problems in 2008-2009 they had to scrap it and keep the GMT900 around longer than they originally planned.

Ive heard that on many accounts. There was lots of pressure to go with an ecoboost motor as well, and apparently theres a design out there, but money stopped it.

I'd like to see a turbo LT1. Use a dual plane intake and two throttle bodies so you can control both 4 cylinder motors seperately. V4 mode could be used a lot more. Torque would come in lower and no reason it couldn't make 800 torque on demand and make less need for deisel motors. While increasing mpg if you stay out of the gas pedal.
