2015 GMC Sierra Paint Problem

So.... still waiting to hear back from the dealer. Took the truck to the car wash yesterday, the only panel that paint isn't flaking off is the passenger side of my box. After I washed it, I stopped by the dealer to show them how bad it's getting. I told the manager that I was afraid to even wash it anymore, and his response, "well that paint isn't coming off from washing it" Which I was just at the car wash and when I went over those spots with the power washer, they started to flake even worse. (I never got any closer than about 3' from the truck with it) The car wash I use has the worse pressure, my damn hose at home is better than what it puts out. Makes me wonder how bad it would be if I actually went somewhere with good pressure... He then proceeded to walk up to my truck and point out that if my truck wasn't lifted that my tires wouldn't stick out so far.... Well no SHIT! This is an older guy and I swear he is half blind. I'm sorry, but stock or lifted, the tires would still throw shit from the road where the paint is coming off my truck. I have told him several times that I was having this issue before the lift went in, but he doesn't seem to care. Hopefully hear something today.

To this day I am trying to figure out why the dealers are so scared to present issues to GM about complaints? It makes me wonder if that is why GM always says they have never heard of a issue is because the dealers wont push the complaint up.

The Corvette owners had issues with the paint on the new C7, took it to GM and the plant manager at Bowling Green. They agreed the pain quality was sub par and corrected the paint process and then worked out resolutions with the affected cars. Why is it so hard to get that for other GM vehicle owners as well?

The water based paint is the culprit though, my dad worked and retired from a GM plant, they had the same complaints at the plant level once they changed his plant over to water based paint. Poor coverage quality and was easily chipped or scratched. Water based paint is just not as durable as urethane paint.

I think more than anything they want to keep themselves off of the radar. I suppose being the guy thats always calling possibly in their minds brings unwanted attention.

Not just your 15....the paint black paint on my 14 is pretty thin too. I have quite a few nicks on my front painted bumper. I would avoid any mechanical car washes. Hand wash is the best. And get a couple coats of wax on there to help protect the paint a little more.

Not really anything we can do aside from a complete repainting, but thats just ridiculous I think

Its just less durable than previous years due to EPA standard of water based paints.

I have a 2015 All Terrain & have 15-20 chips on the front painted portion of the bumper .. I took it to Carl's GMC in Stuart, FL & Shuamcher GMC in Palm Beach Gardens, where I purchased it & they both did NOTHING for me. I am currently working with https://www.facebook.com/gmc to find a resolution. We cannot be the only few experiencing this issue. Please let me know if anyone gets a resolution to this problem & I will do the same. This is unacceptable on a $50k truck !!!

I hope you have this issue taken care of.............This is a PERFECT example of how clueless dealerships are. There is no possible way that your lift or tire size has anything to do with GM not properly painting a vehicle. It doesn't matter what you have done to the truck, GM needs to learn how to paint!

Good luck and don't give up!

Just set up mine do be done the week of the 23rd. Doing both sides and front bumper. Probably going to pay the extra to have the hood done while it's in there. Hopefully the roof and tailgate match up when it's all done.

Good luck with it all coming out matching and not messing anything else up. I hate auto body issues!

I just had my 2015 SLT waxed today and found 3 paint blemishes from the factory. All three are contaminants dried into the paint. The worst one is on the roof. A piece of debris about 1/4" long dried right into the paint! It truly makes me sick, the thought of having to take the truck in and leave it, not knowing how the finished product will come out. I am so pissed off right now.

Well it could be worse my 15 I purchased a month ago not only has a leak on the passanger side floor and now is soaked and in the shop, I have 15 yes 15 dents in the roof from the midget salesman with a snow rake. Not overly concerned because I got a great PDR guy. But it still glazes me up!!!

Truck went in today. Changed what we were doing though. Instead of having both sides completely painted, I asked if they could instead rock guard from the first body line up from the bottom of the door all the way around, including front and rear bumpers. They said they can get it to look like the factory rock guard that's on the bottom. They are going to clear about an inch or so above where the rock guard stops and then wet sand and buff it so it all flows together. Curious to see how it turns out. I could have just had them paint the whole side, but this saves them from tearing the truck apart and helps me in the long run, since my truck is lifted. I will always have rock chip issues, hopefully this will hold up better than factory paint.

Rock guard will be color matched.

I will. I just hope i'm not disappointed...

If you are disappointed, just take it to your local LineX dealer and linex over the rock guard.
