2015 GMC Sierra Paint Problem

How did you get a hold a GM representative? I just had my truck into the dealer for them to do the "paint test" with the masking tape to see if it would peel off. They told me they needed to keep the truck for awhile to let the metal warm up to room temperature since it was -10 outside that day. I got a call later that day saying they did the test and the paint is fine, its just wear and tear. They did get me the 2016 corner bed protectors under warranty though. BUT when I picked my truck up from the dealer and then got home, I noticed that all the snow that was on the truck when I dropped it off was still on there (wheel wells, back bumper, and the topper) and none of it was melted off, like it would have done if they pulled it inside and let the vehicle warm up to proper temperature before performing the test. I called back and got a hold of the manager and he said they will talk with service and then get back to me. Still haven't heard anything back. Its been 4 days. I want to get in contact with corporate to get my truck repainted and complain to them about this. I have a bunch of chips in front of the rear wheel well, and all along the rocker panels the keep getting bigger. I thought I was smart when I bought the truck and put a clear bra over the whole front, but now chips are showing up in random places that they shouldn't be. And I am very pissed at the dealer for lying to me that they did the test properly and just brushed me off like that.

I went unto the GM website and clicked contact information. They list 3 ways i believe to get in touch with someone. They give a phone number, mail a letter via postal service, or the live chat which I did. I just asked the girl on the chat for her email. I sent her a letter regarding my paint issue. She contacted me the next day about starting a file.

Took my truck into the dealer again so they could take pictures to send off to her. They reviewed the pictures and called me a week later saying they will paint it under warranty.

Didn't do any paint tests. Just took pictures of my spots.

Hope that helps.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I hand wash as well, same method I used on my Avalanche for several years, and after 1 year of owning this truck I have more scratches and scuffs than my Avalanche did and that thing was 13 or 14 years old when I sold it. I am not sure what else I can do to improve my technique, maybe add more grit guards in the bucket?! Sounds like it's just the nature of the paint.

I have a 2015 All Terrain & have 15-20 chips on the front painted portion of the bumper .. I took it to Carl's GMC in Stuart, FL & Shuamcher GMC in Palm Beach Gardens, where I purchased it & they both did NOTHING for me. I am currently working with https://www.facebook.com/gmc to find a resolution. We cannot be the only few experiencing this issue. Please let me know if anyone gets a resolution to this problem & I will do the same. This is unacceptable on a $50k truck !!!

This problem is not the dealer's fault, he's just the one stuck dealing with the crap being manufactured. It is all our faults for letting our politicians respond to every special interest group and passing touch-freely laws and regulations to make special interests feel good without giving a damn for the consequences on the average hard working $OB.

So, gone are the days when I bought a $5K truck with a $500 enamel or lacquer finish, with poisonous heavy metal pigments, in a volatile solvent, air cured, compounded and buffed to a durable, mirror finish. Earl Scheib painted my entire '60 Chevy with their $29.95 deluxe paint job (regular was $19.95) that could deflect bullets ...now I get a $50K truck with a $50 vapor thin powder color coat, topped off with a water based jello hard clear coat environmentally friendly finish that gets chipped by an insect hit.

As a consequence we are all stuck with soft, easily scratched finishes that can be permanently damaged by bird poop sitting a day in the hot Summer sun that is somehow saving the planet or more likely increasing profit.

How is it our fault we buy a 50,000 dollar truck and it has a junk paint job I think somebody needs to think before they speak

They don't want or expect us to think. It's in part our fault for letting manufacturers get away with this crap and not challenging them when they try to cheapen their product and mask their turning it to crap justifying it as championing a politically correct cause for which they may get brownie points and/or tax credits.

These great, new powder/clear coats save so many cu ft of volatile solvents from being released to the atmosphere, reduce vehicle weight, are more environmentally friendly for recycling (in fact easier and cheaper to apply, saves time, reduces costs, and can easily be applied by robots without final finishing).....and no more steel core oil filters their new plastic "E" cores are much better (in fact cheaper, saves weight and crappy construction). They must laugh when no one complains that their new finish which they tout reduces curb weight by two lbs, and the filter 6 oz. will save the environment by reducing the use of a kazillion gallons of gas over a kabillion years. Theoretically, I can save the same amount by not eating two McDonalds, fries and a donut and would promise to do so if they agreed to throw in the extra vehicle weight in my vehicle using the old DuPont Imron paint.

It's a good thing the dinosaurs are all dead or some moron would make them an endangered species despite their occasional habit of chowing down on a few humans, thus making it illegal to harm or kill them. What was I thinking?...it is OK to let 15 ft. protected alligators roam about unmolested. I remember seeing somewhere...."I have seen the enemy and it is us".

I remember I bought my truck near the same time as you (I got mine right at the start of May 2015). I have about 17k miles on the truck now. Mine isn't horrible but at the same time the chips and scratches I do have annoy me. I for some reason have a decent concentration of chips around the fuel cap.

What I was thinking of doing was getting ceramic coating done just to help with some extra protection. Although the clear film is what protects the best.

While I agree with your sentiment at the same time I'm not interested in ****ing over the environment either. If the shit was causing harm then an alternative should be found. Just they should have been applying more paint layers or something to strengthen it.

I have 3m clear film on my front bumper and grill and not a scratch or chip anywhere. Wish I could say the same for the rear bumper :(

My dealer in Canada repainted the bumper and put a plastic coating over it. Helped alot.

So I bought a 2015 in the green emerald GMC. Drove home from the dealer parked it, woke up in the morning... some kid must have hit the wheel wall with a bike pedal (street side parked) and dented a good 4-6 inches, and a serious chip to the metal. Yup I was happy, also somehow in the literal 10 mins I drove it I got a chip on the top of the tail gate near the lip. All less than 12 hours of owning it ha.

Dealer said they would take care of it, didn't hear from them for a while drove there bugged em & they said it would be $1200 CDN to fix it all. I told them to get ******.

Not sure what to do now, as the insurance will fix it, but drop value like mad.

I'd post a pic if I knew how to

Also, I opened my door and lightly touched a tree branch, 2 scratches lol. Unbelievable job GMC!
