You're right. The options are tuning and worrying about potential out of pocket costs on an unproven platform, or going with a proven platform in the Duramax that includes a year of warranty. He didn't necessarily need a Duramax - that's why he purchased the 5.3, but he's certainly considering it now.

I haven't driven the 2015 Ram or F150, so I can't comment on their throttle response. I'm not as concerned with the throttle pedal delay as I am in the way the transmission reacts to input. I agree that things are changing, but I'll be looking for the manufacturer that make the driving experience normal again.

Have personally never tuned anything with the warranty reason in mind. But additionally the stock fuel mileage for an every increasing in size half ton truck kind of impresses me. Near or at 400hp through a 4 spd auto trans with 4wd would have been a sub 10 mpg proposition 10-15 years ago. Though the guys that have tuned via various sources all say it is the best money they have spent.

Reading initial reviews, the writers always note the fastest feeling vehicle vs say GM's for example always looking for the highway gear. But the time slips for loaded & unloaded are always razor thin differences if not the opposite of how what the driver was feeling.

Apologies to the op for being off topic. Just think there are options if needed for those who would keep the rpms a little higher & gears a little lower.

I will agree the auto 4wd is great

it's the only feature that really matters at all in my opinion.

The Big 3 trucks all get about the same mileage, they all tow about the same weight, the differences are mainly cosmetic. (and they all look like pick up trucks, not really a lot they can do to differentiate there)

If I have to drive an hour or two on roads that are mainly dry but might have some slippery stretches the Auto 4wd pays for itself every time, you can't put a price on peace of mind. (or your life)

No clue why GM doesn't put this in the advertising. I don't think Ram, Toyota, and Nissan have it at all, and I've heard you have to get the Lariat trim level with Ford. (and when I looked in 2010 it was only on the Harley Davidson model) So they've got a feature that makes a HUGE impact on safety and don't even tell people about it.

Would you buy a new '14 or '15 Silverado or Sierra again? Why or why not?

I seriously shopped for a new '14 twice since last November. The litany of problems reported here scared me off the second time. Now an ideally equipped '15 SLT has presented itself at a great price and a final decision must be made before my rounded-up GM earnings expire in a couple of weeks.

Although there are others, the vibration/shake issue is my most serious concern. The fact that it can be traced to different components (or not fixed at all) is not reassuring. 20 years ago, Ford bought back an Econoline due to the same issue and I have no desire to repeat that miserable experience.

We need a truck, but not a headache. Would you put your money down again?

2015 LTZ Z71 4x4 crew cab short bed- Absolutely yes, no problems.

Keep in mind that what you read online will usually be what's wrong with any vehicle. Few people will stop to do a write up about what is great and what they love.

Honestly even consumer reports gives it a favorable ranking which is amazing considering it's not Japanese :P

I love my 14 Sierra Denali!! Yes it's had its problems but all minor and every new style does the first year. It's got a ton more horsepower and the mileage is so much better than my 12 Chevrolet ltz. I would buy another in a heartbeat. It's the best looking truck out there!

I would not buy one again. I have had an entire book of problems. Major improvement over my 2008 but the bar wasn't set very high.

So you hated your 08 but you went ahead and bought another GM?

By far the best vehicle I've ever owned I love my 14 sierra especially the white diamond in the all terrain edition haven't seen another around like mine yet. As for the headlights not sure where some of you people live but pitch black out here and with the headlights on and the fog lights I see way down the road and directly in front of me with no issues. Glasses maybe???

Am trading up to a High Country this week. Have been pleased with truck. Only problem I have had is the heated seats - this is a common issue.

Thankfully the Chevy has good headlights, but it seems like the complaining about the Sierra headlights is mainly that they don't light up the sides of the road. Seems like it's mainly the stock bulbs because GM has or will come out with a different bulb to fix it and other people do aftermarket upgrades.
