Smartphone money spent?

Just curious how much some you guys & girls spend on phones?

Was watching the Samsung Galaxy S6 launch yesterday & went to check the Android forums.

Aside from the complaining, it amazed me to see how many phones some of the people posting

had said they went through in a year. Some are literally device release to the next release or

seemingly every 4 to 6 months.

I know some sell their used phone out right & pay cash for a new one, but would think it would still be

a lot of money out of hand to stay that updated?

Currently have a Samsung S3 that was bought new June 2012. Still works great & phone function aside,

mainly use the camera & use it to tether a laptop when I am on the road traveling. Cannot even think

of one single app used. Maybe occasionally check the weather, but generally stay updated on that

when on the laptop.

Again, just curious.

Well, I was traveling overseas and my smartphone ran up a over $1000 in data roaming charges in 4 hrs. Pretty dumb phone, if you ask me.

Hehe, yeah a friend of mine a couple years ago was traveling in northern MI & while stateside, his calls (according to Verizon) were bouncing off of Canadian towers. He was less than impressed with the roaming fees.

& I should have wrote the above title differently. Was aiming more at how many devices(phones) people purchase?

Do you buy just one & keep it until it is completely dead? Or on constant buy/sell mode to keep grabbing the latest bit of new technology released?

I've tried to keep my phone for at least the typical 2 year contract timeframe. I'm current at my 25th month with my phone but haven't found anything that I like to replace it so I'll just hang onto it for awhile yet.

I had my Inspire 4g for 3 years and sometime in may I'll have had this OPPO Find 7a a year. I'll keep this one at least another year, or God forbid until I break it. Inspire was bought with contract discount @ $100 and the Find 7a $500 direct from OPPO. New Samsung look purdy but not paying that much for a phone that is striving to be as locked down as an apple product. Might as well over pay for one of them instead.

As long as I have the best connection speed available, I keep my devices until I absolutely have to replace them (ie. screen shattered, destroyed, etc.).

I have a Iphone 5c and 5s.

I too have an S3 and was due for an upgrade last month. I don't plan on getting another phone until the S5 or Iphone 6 are around $100 or my phone craps out.

I go through phones fast. I will pay cash and sell the old device. My average is 6-9 months. I just get bored with a phone. I am already wanted to dump my s5 for a note 4

I have had my iphone 4s almost 3 years. I've been through 2 cases and a battery.

I'll keep this phone as long as I can because I like the size. Maybe Motorola will still have something reasonably sized when this dies.

I keep mine through the 2 year period and then upgrade to whatever's around $100...

Rolling with an iPhone 5s at the moment. Got it about the time the 6 came out. Sprung for the LifeProof case this time, best cellular related money I've ever spent!

As far as services go, I get unlimited talk, text and 10gb of data. I hate worrying if I'm going to get hit with overages.

I usually get a phone free from work...

+1 Currently a Blackberry Z30. Fantastic management of email/calls/meetings. But the friggin thing has piss-poor reception on the same system that my personal S3 is on. The antenna is the suspect on the Crackberry forum.
