amxguy1970 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 There are 1000's of post on the crappy Goodyear tires, they suck! I laugh when a guy defends them. Because they don't do what you want to do? For someone who doesn't leave the pavement they aren't horrible and will do just fine. Uniroyal tires, those were pretty bad back in the day, these had to fit the bill of cost and cover what most owners use them for (news flash, that isn't off road) and have descent mpg and NVH characteristics. Duratracs, Eagle F1, MT/R's, and some of the passenger car tires like the assurance line are pretty good and highly rated. The oem tires are junk, not just Goodyear every tire GM uses as a oem are pure 100% garbage. I learned that with my 05 that I bought new which had duelers on it, this time I didn't sign the papers until they agreed to put the tires I wanted on the truck! Every tire? The stock tires on all the vettes, the Z28 torfeo's, wrangler all-terrain adventurer are all junk? Makes me laugh when people use blanket statements that aren't true which shows they don't know what they are talking about, especially when they don't know what other people use their vehicles for. BlackZ71Silverado Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Bridgestone Dueler A/T came on my truck. Maybe it is because I have a Z71 with 17'' wheels They were my OEM tires as well, 2010 Z71 w/ Appearance Package and 18" wheels.....They were a little better tire than the Wranglers that came on my 2008 but still junk. Replaced all of my truck tires with Cooper Discoverer AT3's.
Rock1500 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Just an FYI, Discount TIre will give you trade value on your tires, if they are still decent. I got 200 for mine. Probably could get more on Craigslist, but I didn't want to deal with that. 200 for the whole set of 4 tires? or per?
Spurshot Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 The tires on my truck were listed as "P265/65 R18 All Terrain, Blackwall". I think that is a misleading RPO description. I'd rather they had an option for a real AT tire that was a decent performer. Even a BFG, Toyo, or a real Goodyear AT would have been better and probably still on my truck if they had been so equipped. Or don't even go that direction and tell the buyer they are on their own. The All Terrain truck comes with "no-terrain" tires. GM, get with it or go sit on the porch.
Rawyzf Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 200 for the whole set of 4 tires? or per? For the whole set of 4. 200 off 700 helps, and then 100 in rebates.
nfisherman Posted March 28, 2015 Author Posted March 28, 2015 I'm not going to trade the Goodyears in. I'll just wear them out. When it's time for new tires, I'll go with Michelin LTX M/S 2s. I've had them before and they're great tires for me. They're very quiet and they'll handle anything I plan to drive through. They're not very aggressive, but I drive probably 98% of the time on paved roads. A set of the Michelins will be about $200 more than the stock Goodyears. It will be worth every penny.
TJay74 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I got $500 for my tires the day I bought the truck from Discount Tire and bought my Nitto Terra grapplers.
Coppertone Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Traded mine in got 450.00 for them. Went with Toyo AT II at what store?
minus3012 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Local tire shop. Mine only had 1000 miles on them.
Rock1500 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I got $500 for my tires the day I bought the truck from Discount Tire and bought my Nitto Terra grapplers. I should have done that, i can still stop by and see what they offer. only have 6k on them.
Rawyzf Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I got $500 for my tires the day I bought the truck from Discount Tire and bought my Nitto Terra grapplers. What size did you trade in? That seems very high.
Brian S. Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 There are 1000's of post on the crappy Goodyear tires, they suck! I laugh when a guy defends them. I laugh when you laugh, and he who laughs last, laughs loudest. More seriously, I like the Goodyears a lot for driving around, very quiet, get good mileage from them. They are not good off road at all though, as noted, no traction in mud. Which sort of surprises me as they seem OK on frozen lakes, you'd think the snow and ice would be harder to get traction on.
b00001 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I'm not going to trade the Goodyears in. I'll just wear them out. When it's time for new tires, I'll go with Michelin LTX M/S 2s. I've had them before and they're great tires for me. Look like the Goodyears.
b00001 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I got $500 for my tires the day I bought the truck from Discount Tire and bought my Nitto Terra grapplers. Now these look a little more like a 'truck' tire. Looks good! Any difference in tire noise? MPG?
