What is your evening meal, dinner or supper?

I call it dinner, and I am from the midwest. Any further south of me, I'm sure it's more likely supper. Maybe it's a more rural/city thing too.

We call it Dinner here in Chicago. Although my Dad is from downstate central Illinois and he calls it Supper.

carbonated drink = pop (not soda or coke)

I also think its age Dependant. I call it either of those but a lot of my elders call it supper

I've never called it a hoagie! But to be fair, I just call it a sandwich. "Hey, should we go grab a sandwich for lunch?"

 

When is the switch for calling it supper instead of dinner? Is it before or after you start yelling at the kids to stay off your grass?

I use supper normally, but will use dinner for a more formal evening meal.

 

Some old folks and farmers (in Kansas at least...) call the mid-day meal dinner instead of lunch.

"Lunch" is supper.

 

"Supper" is actually dinner.

 

What you eat is your "diet", but the being "on a diet" means you eat less, so your "diet" is also what you DON'T eat.

 

"Soda" is "pop", but "having a pop" means downing a beer.

 

You drink water, but "drinking" means consuming alcohol.

 

You snort cocaine, but "having a snort", again, means alcohol.

 

English (and by that I mean "American") is a wonderful language.

 

So, have a snort with dinner, but don't drink the water.
