Lots of assumptions in this thread.

Glass is "too thin"??? LOL

This thread is beginning to read like the "paint chipping on the All Terrain" too easily.

If the windshield cracking was a true concern and widespread (considering how many of these trucks are on the road) then it would be an issue.

I have a 15.5 and my window cracked while on the freeway even though there was no car in front of me. That cracked spread and now I have a long ugly crack.

I was thinking about replacing the windshield. I seen some people post that the OEM windshield is too thin or weak. If that's the case should I get a after market windshield and if so which one.

Something else I've noticed on mine and I don't know for sure but I swear I hear my windshield pop sometimes but our roads are so bad around here I don't ever know if its just a pebble hitting the windshield or if they windshield its self is making a popping noise. (much like a house does when it settles.)

Does it sound like a plastic water bottle when you squeeze it? Mine does this a lot when it's cold and the interior is warming up

Just noticed your post is from last year sorry lol

The glass on my 2015 Silverado cracked and the glass on my equinox 2015 cracked. There's something definitely wrong with the class they are using. Chevrolet needs to take a serious look at the thickness of glass they're using they must be trying to save wait or money from the glass that they're purchasing from their supplier. I live in the Houston area where it doesn't get that cold so weather is not a factor. This will probably be the last Chevrolets I purchase.

I have never scraped ice in my life, use a broom to push the snow off and let it run for a 1/2hr with the defrost on high.

Good for you, but that's not the point. The truck should be built to take an ice storm and have it scraped off with a proper ice scraper. I had to scrape ice to safely see out my windshield and now the glass is all scratched. Pushing off the snow where you live might work, but everyone doesn't live there. I've been in storms where the ice builds up as you drive, defrost on high. you have to get out and scrape that or park it.

2015 SILVERADO Had the windshield crack and the dealer said that they just crack on their own and that it is covered under warranty.  I was selling my truck that same day to a buddy of mine and he said just have him come in and they would take care of it.  Now the dealer told him that it has to happen within the first year or GM won't cover it.  This should be a bumper to bumper warranty coverage.  GM should also know by now that this is a big issue as the dealer also informed me that the new corvettes are cracking like crazy.

Mine sounds like a water bottle all the time when warming up. Been getting worse the longer I own it.

I would wager there are some regulatory agency’s requirements for auto glass that GM follows.   Probably it’s mostly safety/performance related.

GM meets this standard.

But they probably don’t exceed it.   Neither do the other manufacturers.  There may be some points & exceptions to this - I’m not in the industry - but I’m confident I’m 90% correct.

Haha, because of a cracked windshield? Yup, two different vehicles have cracks (mostly likely not defect) so that means Chevrolet is using bad or wrong glass, wow...

This thread is full of laughs. Tony is on point, the amount people that place blame is comical. It isn't an epidemic because you find a couple others with the same issue (whether glass, paint chip, highway shake, ect) it is a few rogue items that any manufacturer can have a random defect. Many times caused by the owner or mother nature (ahem paint chip & windshield crack) so just take the appropriate course of action and move on, playing the blame game and spewing misinformation (thin/wrong part/process) doesn't help the issue.

Mine shattered after I hit it with a hammer. This is unacceptable quality from GM and I demand they fix it! Worst glass I've ever seen! Lol:lol:

God bless America
