Windshield Frustration

Recommended Posts

I have a '14 sierra SLT and have owned it for 18 months. I only had it about 3 months and got two cracks in both sides of my windshield that almost met in the middle of the windshield. I waited almost 14 months to replace the windshield because initially it was too expensive due to the new model. Was going to cost me ~$700 last year. It finally came down to $350 and I replaced it a month ago. Well here I am again...it is cracked and I need to replace it again. I have spent more time with a cracked windshield that I have without one. I have 3 friends with 2014+ Sierra/Silverado/Suburban vehicles that have also already had to replace windshields.

Anyone else having similar issues?

How/who do I call at GM to file a complaint? This is just plain ridiculous!

being in the insurance business i can tell you that their reply would be, "try not to follow so close to the vehicles in front of you" and while i know what you'll say to that as i live in colorado where they throw sand on our roads. i can honestly say I've only replaced 3 windshields in the past 20 years.

highway driving is usually the culprit. but we had a local glass company who used to offer a 1 year free replacement for 20 bucks extra when they replaced your W/S unfortunately they ended that program! but you might check to see if any glass companies near you offer something similar.

with that said, i would discourage you from lowering your comprehensive deductible to cover glass even thought you haven't mentioned it. fast is if you do the math, your still buying glass.. your just paying for it each month in your insurance premiums.

my company gives 25% refund each year to stay claim free. for me that is over 1200 a year in refunds. with money like that you can buy a new W/S each year with the refund and never file a claim...

I went thru 2 windshields in 18 months. I put on a bug deflector and that seems to have helped so far..

Getting mine changed tomorrow. quoted me $286 insurance deductible was 500 so I'm paying cash.

I could think of so many other things I would rather spend this money on.

I also haven't had any problems with the windshield. I drive on dirt and gravel roads all the time. I did have to replace the windshield a couple times on my 98 though. It's just the nature of the beast.

Several threads on here and other forums regarding the front glass cracking, yes the windshield is either week, thin, or under pressure, something is not right on these trucks.

Getting GM to admit it will never happen.

Replaced mine 3 months ago. Driving on the highway and of course there always has to be an idiot that can't keep between the lines. I backed farther away from them until I could pass didn't think anything got me, after all I was still at least 100 feet behind them. Anyways, got to work all was fine. Leaving from work and get in to drive off. Windshield cracked from driver side top corner to 1/4 way across diagonal. Safelight replaced for 315 including new Bosche premium blades.

After I pay for this new one, I'm going to be really ticked if it happens again. With my luck it happen again in a few weeks

Mine hasn't cracked but I did notice the other day that I have about 5 tiny chips in it that pissed me off. I haven't even had my truck a year. I drive a lot of hwy but I don't live in OK where the roads are horrible.

i received a chip in my windshield about 4 months after getting it. I went to safelite auto and had it repaired. the windshield has not cracked however I was not too impressed with their work.

I have not had any cracking issues with mine just a few normal chips. I don't think it has anything to do with the windshield just bad luck.

I know how you feel :(

Replaced my windshield after winter with 2 big craters. 6 days after the new windshield, another crater :( The shop I got the windshield from "repaired" with injection for free, but you can still see it.

The glass was from PGW, but it seems to be just the same, it was about $250+tax Canadian dollar installed.

Something else I've noticed on mine and I don't know for sure but I swear I hear my windshield pop sometimes but our roads are so bad around here I don't ever know if its just a pebble hitting the windshield or if they windshield its self is making a popping noise. (much like a house does when it settles.)
