GM sold 100,850 GMC Sierra pickups in the first half of 2015. Combined sales of the Silverado and Sierra equal 376,672 units or 19,492 units more than total F-Series sales.

This has almost always been the case, especially when you break it down by type. I couldn't find it for 2014 but the past few years that I've been following it, GM sold significantly more 1500s than Ford did F150s. The best selling truck claim they use is nothing but a technicality.

GM could out sell Ford with Silverado alone they would build a superior truck with all the same amenities and then some new innovations. Ford stands out, is unique and sets the standard. I personally don't like the look of a Ford, but get irritated that the new 2015 will out run, out pull, out haul my 2015 Denali. Ford has a group of determined truck design engineers that apparently GM doesn't have and doesn't think it needs. I guess they like being number 2. Every darn test or arrival I can find puts Ford a top of the heap. Unacceptable for GM to let them do it.

GM said they studied their competition very closely to make the 2014 Trucks. Not too closely because it doesn't compare in many ways. Sure, it's a nice truck and they are selling right now, but fails to stand out and above the competition other than Toyota. My 60,000 thousand dollar Denali is better than a 45 thousand dollar Tundra. Nice!

Interesting theory, but ....

Chevrolet & Ford have went back & forth for years in terms of who sold the most half tons.

The numbers have been posted on this site in years past.

Ford (& Ram) put more emphasis on & sell more HD trucks(2500 & up).

GM dealers have resisted stocking, supplying & promoting the HD line ups. Specifically years ago

when GM had the Kodiak 4500/5500. I know more dealers are now stepping up to work with & service

the Duramax 2500/3500 now. But even today I can go to the local Ford or Ram dealers & find more

HD trucks sitting on the lot ready to go than both the GM dealerships combined.

The Dmax/Allison combo is a good one, but this is a place where the dealers really need to step up.

Well said, but GM cares very much about thier 1500 line as evidenced in the 2016 face lift which was done to hopefully to keep them competitive with Ford. As far as sales go, I'm not aware of the last time GM outsold Ford with Chevy alone and this is because Ford makes a darn nice truck. Even taking away the bling, Ford trucks out pull and carry more than anyone else. In 2011 Ford upped its game with new power plants and added Rapture which elevated them further. And then there's the F250 line....wow! GM should be able to have its glory days again. They were given open check book to create a truck superior to all others, but Ford trumps them every time. This is not just ones opinion or preference. I prefer a GM, but Ford literally makes a lighter, stronger, nicer product and its redicilas that GM allows this.

Well, Ford sells more 1/2 tons than Chevy or GMC, not both. However back in late 2000's Ford was flat out blowing GM away across the board. Now GM is selling more again with all lines, including the popular Colorado and Canyon. I would like to one day see a Chevy 1500 alone out sell the Ford F-150 and HD out sell the 2500 in an apples to apples sell off. I'm just not sure GM can ever do it and there is absolutely no reason for it other than the fact that Ford an almost unbeatable team it appears. GM stays conservitve and holds back on out of the box design. Ford doesn't and they lead the industry because of it, unfortunately. GM is also harded about following trends that has never worked well for them. I say all this, but I'm a GM guy, not Ford! To when you have to study and out pace, out strategize, out work your competitor. Ford does!

I don't dislike Fords, but I have always been a Chevy fan.

Do you remember (maybe not) back in the 70's there was a commercial where Chevy's theme was, "Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie, and Chevrolet" ?

Well, I saw all the people in the commercial wearing the same Chevy shirt and so I called GM back east and got them to send me one.

Anyway, I just don't like how the tailgate gets dented in the following video? Could it be a rigged spot?

It just doesn't make them look good!

Weren't the GM trucks lighter until just this past year when Ford came out with their new lighter frames? Even with them coming out with the new frames and being hundreds of pounds lighter, they're barely lighter than the GM trucks are now. Plus I don't think they out tow the GM trucks. Especially the 6.2L. I don't think ford is unbeatable by any means. I would much rather have my Silverado than an F150. Plus the reason Ford sells more F150s than GM does Silverados is because GM splits the truck sales between the Silverado and the Sierra. If they didn't, Ford wouldn't outsell GM. Like it was said before, that claim is just a technicality.

I'll send the tests/arrivals where Ford 3.5 Ecoboosts out performs GM's 6.2. I have the 6.2 in my Denali. It's sluggish as hell. Nothing to write home about. GM has more lines, more dealerships and in times like now they barely are able to out sell Ford with it all. Fords one truck beats any of GMs product. That's saying something.

If you find a comparison where the GM out tows, outruns or out tows the Ford, I would love to see it. That's my issue here is I get tired of seeing Ford dominate in trucks.

    • Through the years it hasn't been my typical method as I tried to drop oil on an engine that was hot from having been worked, however that was not always practical and had to fire up a unit and let it warm up reasonably well and drop the oil when I had the time to do it but am referring to not only vehicles but a variety of farm equipment and highway tractors etc. However on a vehicle where one is crawling under it and the exhaust is nearby to ones body and if wanting to pull the plug without danger of being hit with boiling hot oil or attempting to remove a HOT oil filter, its sure safer and easier to not have everything smoking hot and can remove the filter right away when under the vehicle and let it all drain. Of course its not the end of the world if a bit of oil stays in the engine that might have eventually found its way out, I like to get out as much as possible but any oil changes that take place in shops would rarely be sitting around for very long at all before the plug is thrown back in and filter slapped on and oil poured in and sent out the door quick like. There would be very little time spent ( assuming they even did it ) in starting the engine with oil to fill the filter, then waiting to verify the level on the stick. A good reason to check ones oil level shortly after a shop changed the oil on a vehicle just to make sure its correct and to look under for any oil around the drain plug or filter.
    • Cool to see another Vermonter!
    • I have changed oil and filter for years by starting a cold engine to warm oil up, let it run 5-10 minutes depending on temperature. Drain until it starts dripping, refill with quantity from owners manual or get it close.
    • I changed the factory fill oil in the rear diff of my truck for the first time today and the miles is close to 9000 on the truck. There was a lot of fines on the magnet, a very thick layer but working it through my fingers it all felt like mush and as most know it appears like graphite, so no surprise chunks anyway. Certainly was time to do it from my thinking and could have been done sooner but the oil didn't look awful but sure wasn't new looking and never expected it to either. I did use some solvent to help me clean out the bottom area of the axle housing, just get any other stuff settled at the bottom washed and wiped out of the housing for the bit of effort it takes. I used Amsoil Severe Gear 75W90 in the easy packs to try out what they are like and I used up 4 packs and didn't spill much at all in the process but did take all four of the packs and go to the work bench and emptied them into a measuring container and there certainly was some in them that added up to something, then poured that into one of the easy packs and squirted in what I could get out of it. I would say the level is within 1/8th of an inch of being level with the threads at the fill plug so just the perfect amount. Once again, more than what GM says the fill volume is but computes with what others are adding to their rear diffs as well.
