Trading Sierra for Silvy -> What will I be missing?

I went from a quad cab(dodges double cab equivalent) to a crew cab and that will be the biggest improvement. Haha literally. Seriously though, if you ever have backseat passengers, they will love you for it.

I'm aware of the extra space and its benefits. That isn't why I'm swapping. Additionally, I'm really just trying to understand what features of my current Sierra SLE won't be present in the SIlverado at the 1LT trim level (with LT Plus package and All-Star Edition).

my 15' GMC Max tow has grade control braking with my max tow package. (at least I believe it does lol)

My GMC has it as well. I don't really understand where the other comment even bubbled up from. I stated that I had it, and was wondering if it was missing in the Silverado. But, I found that what isn't present in the Silverado is Hill Descent Control unless you have the Z71 package (which I have no use for).

Myself, looking at CC Sierra with Z71 SLT. Has everything my current DC Sierra has EXCEPT trailer brake controller...I don't tow much at all but should I really care?

Differnce mostly being tha the GMC has a few more bells and whistles than the silvy as in a few upgrades in the interior and resale values if you sell or trade. The GMC's cost a little more too because of this. They are basically one step up on the silvys

If it doesn't have the brake controller, does it have the same rear gears? Might be something to look at.

Brake controller doesn't matter. V8 + Trailering Package + 3.42 rear end. That's all you NEED to have and can add an aftermarket controller if you're towing trailers with electric brakes. Personally, I have a Prodigy P3 that I'd love to put back into service. So, if the new truck doesn't have a controller, I'll actually be happier.

Well, I traded out of the Sierra today and into the Silverado. I'm missing exactly what I thought I would - the red lighting on the dash versus the blue. It's far easier (for me, at least) to distinguish the DIC menu items that I'm scrolling through with the red color scheme versus the blue. It's pretty much impossible for me to tell what's highlighted and I'm already finding that it's a game of chance when scrolling through the choices.

Believe it or not, I'm also missing the smoother ride of the Sierra. The wheels and tires on the Silverado are "All Terrain" (Wranglers) versus the more docile tires on the Sierra. There's a noticeable difference in what I can feel in terms of road surface imperfections with these tires. It's funny, too, because I've run these tires on many trucks I've owned over the years and never thought twice about it. Hopefully, part of it is because the suspension needs to break in a bit and it will get smoother.

Ride = Tire Pressure ...

My HD came with 80 psi from the dealer (DUH) - when I spoke to them about it they said they do that so not to cause flat spots in the tires while sitting on the lot ... so much for the deliverly / dealer prep / checking out ____ whatever

Nice floor, same as mine ?

Poster above beat me to the tire comment, check the pressures. I run mine a little on the high side as I do notice it affects my fuel mileage on the highway, but when set at the recommended pressure the ride is smoother. A little as 5 psi makes a difference in ride

Same trucks.......front end looks are subjective......get which options you prefer.....

Did you go from a 6.5 ft bed to a 5.5 ft bed? That's what I'd miss. I switched to Chevy from Frrd because it was easier to find standard bed crew cabs.

Nice truck, congrats!

I actually prefer the 5'8" bed over the 6'6". I don't haul a ton of stuff around (I have an equipment trailer for that) and the tonneaus fit better on the shorter beds.

I will look at the tire pressure, but I don't believe that has anything to do with what I'm experiencing. This is a sidewall stiffness / tread pattern sort of thing I believe.

Getting the options you "want" isn't quite as easy as you might think. I had the Homelink in the Sierra. Wanted it in the Silvy. Wasn't going to pay $800 for it. I'm just fine with a garage door opener brick. Actually, it fits in the sunglasses holder nicely. Something CAN be done with that undersized little bin after all! :)

So you are saying a trade for a 2016 Sierra is calling your name? Just kidding. Nice truck.

Lol... I buy enough new vehicles as it is because I load them up with miles pretty quickly. The last time I bought two new vehicles for myself in the same calendar year was when I bought a '97 Explorer then a '97 F-150. Now that I think about it, I think I actually bought those in different calendar years.

While there are a couple of nice things planned for '16, there's nothing there that draws me to that model year over this one.

Tire pressures are not correct, but they aren't the culprit. Seeing 35 on the driver's side and 37 on the passenger's side when cold. Once warm, they equal out (odd - must be less Nitrogen in the driver's side tires... lol). I will definitely be correcting the pressures, but am also going to wait a couple thousand miles before presuming all break-in / wear-in is done and won't be getting any better. I seem to remember the Sierra being really smooth right from the start, although that might be because I drove a Z71 then the non-Z71 and bought the non.. .There's a marked difference with the Z71 suspension, but I don't have that option.

    • Did you ever get this worked out? Mike is doing the two start thing now too. This is after a new camera back in December.
    • I’m doing an experiment on a vehicle I don’t have much money in. I’m going by the premise that after they last 100K miles they were no mechanical problems with assembly. Or defects with the parts. With oil changes by the minder for the first 127K miles when I acquired it. I quickly went through low mileage oil changes then settled on 5k oil changes with close to 170K miles on the vehicle currently. I did have the option to turn off the cylinder deactivation. I didn’t on this vehicle because it’s in ECONOMY mode at least half the time. It should be a no brainer frequent oil changes are the key. The manufacturer gets away with the long oil changes with its severe service  maintenance. Just ask them what is normal.
    • Even set to "recirculated", the air pushes out and is hot. I have noticed that sometime it doesn't want to switch between recirculated/vented air. Say it is set to Circulated Air and I want to switch to Vented, when I click the Vented button, it just quickly lights up/clicks and immediatly switches back to Circulated. It's done this a few times now. So maybe it is an actuator getting stuck? But then, that doesn't explain the hot air when everything is off does it?
    • I wonder what the price is out at the coast, Big Sur or other out of the way locations as I bet they are charging quite a premium over the in land pumps.
    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
