8" MyLink Android Auto update coming

Actually this will probably make it easier for the aftermarket to push these operating systems to our head units. I would suggest that a market will open up for this.

Seeing as how the Mylink software is open source in theory anybody that is creative enough could make an app to allow CarPlay and/or Android Auto on the 14/15s.

XM's network is garbage compared to Sirius. I have a 2015 Tundra as well as a 2015 Silverado with factory XM and it's no different now than it was 10 years ago. Drive near a big tree or patch of bush and your XM is gone...... Sirius on the other hand works no issue ( have a 2013 F150 with factory Sirius). It's not just GM with issues with XM reception..... it's XM in general.

That's interesting... my wife's Ford is Sirius, and her's never works. I've had XM through my last 3 GM's (my 2000 tahoe I had a separate XM unit), and I can't recall ever losing signal except in multi level parking garages.

I have never met anyone here happy with xm ever. Sirius has always been fine... and I have had it for 12 years now lol.

Same experience here with Sirius. I wonder if it's related to your location relative to the sats orbit.

I have had XM for the past 10 years and have no issues with it. Only ever goes out when I'm in a parking garage or under other big concrete structures (like under the middle of a large overpass).

Sirius is better for Canadians, specifically western Canada, bc the satellites travel east to west in a figure 8 pattern. XM is better for eastern Canada bc the the satellites travel north to south through Canada and the US. Im from BC, Canada and i hate my xm. Its a free subscription and that is the reason i deal with the constant cutting in and out

Well Chevy has disappointed me ever since I drove the truck home from the dealer. It had scratches on it (No big deal) had a rats nest in the engine block, and a spring poking out of the seat. They fixed this and broke the rear panel on the seat, and after all that they left 2 spark plugs disconnected and my poor truck was never the same after that. Now it shifts gears like if the transmission was slipping. So it doesn't really surprise me that they wouldn't update the '14s. Now there is a work around. If you can buy a 2016 Mylink system module and install it in the '14 then you can get the update for Droid auto and Car play. There are videos of people doing this and it works. The hardware is all the same from year to year. The screen and harness' fit like gloves. So I'm going to buy this or find a totaled '16 at a yard and get the module out. I would go this far to get rid of the useless 8" screen my truck came with. It doesn't even have Navi. I'm not happy with it at all.

Sounds like a plan. Should be easy enough.

You can't swap modules from different trucks, GM prevented this by vin coding all modules to one truck, so once it is installed new or at the factory, it learns the vin and now will only work in that truck. There is a company that provides new hardware and vin codes it to your truck and then programs it to work in your truck, something the dealership can NOT do since your vin is a 2014/2015 and their system will not program it. The company is MVI inc and here is a link. http://gm-navigation.com/gm/chevrolet-navs/2014-chevrolet-silverado-factory-navigation-system-114.html

Oh ok. Well it was just a thought. I was actually talking about MVI when I said you can buy a module to get these features on the '14. I thought you could just swap it from another truck but now I know you cannot do this. Thanks for your input. I really want to get rid of the one I have being its a useless 8" screen in a nice truck... But yes MVI is where I'll be going to buy the module I want.

It might be cheaper getting a salvage module and having MVI program it to your VIN versus buying a new one from MVI

On that note I couldn't answer that for you, it might be possible but you would have to ask Anthony at MVI about that though.

    • Did you even read this article?   Even the title of the article says "U.S.-Iran Deal Doesn’t Mean a Swift Return of Oil and Gas Flows"   Remember, crude oil prices are based on FUTURE purchases by the oil companies.  Gas prices are based on FUTURE purchases by the station.  This article stated that many of the oil producing nations have to restart their processes to get the oil produced.  Then the oil has to be shipped to wherever.  And it doesn't get there overnight.  And most of that oil is not coming here. Check out this site:  https://afdc.energy.gov/data/10621   A graph will pop up to show where the US imports their oil from.  Notice that there isn't a lot of import from OPEC and Iraq.  Most of the US import comes from Canada. The US oil produces are selling their oil on the open market, which is why the US fuel costs went up.  So you're correct, the US oil companies are going to slow walk the price downward.

    • I just purchased a 2004 Tahoe with 148,******. I used to have a 2006 Suburban that had the push button Auto 4X, 2Hi, 4Hi and 4Lo. When checking out this truck I noticed it had push button but didn’t focus on it. After the purchase when driving home, this is when I noticed it was different and after a little research found out it has the AWD stabilitrak system. I don’t live in an area that requires AWD. I bought the truck to start a new adventure in life with off roading, now that the kids are all grown up. I purchased the truck knowing it didn’t have the G80 rearend but plan on re-gearing to drive on 33s or 35s and upgrade with a rear locker and still be able to tow when needed. Blah Blah Blah Anyway I know am thinking about converting the stabilitrak  to Z71. I know I will have to replace the transfer case. So now the information gathering stage is happening to see if it is worth it. Is the front AWD stabilitrak differential different when compared to a non-AWD front diff? Will I need a completely different front differential or can it be converted? What else should I be considering? I did see something in a video for GMT900 platform with removing the ABS fuse that disables the stabilitrak and turns the truck into a 2 wheel drive. Would that work in the GMT800 platform?
