Anyone know how much oil actually goes into a 2015 5.3? My user manual says 8.5 quarts oil and filter. The dealership is telling me 8 quarts, but 1 tech there was putting in 8.5 quarts. When he put 8.5 quarts into my truck it reads 0.5-1 quarts high. What is the chance that there is something in my engine that is not supposed to be there?

5.3 and 6.2 recommendation was reduced to 8 quarts from the original 8.5.

Info from Oct 2014: (says there is no need to drain the extra 1/2 qt, but that 8 qt is the revised recommendation for 5.3/6.2

Note that the DIMPLES are the full and low marks, not the edge of the cross hatching.

Thanks for the quick replies. Not sure why my 2015 user manual has not been updated since this is from October 2014. Even the online 2015 manual states 8.5 still.

 

Yes I was using the dimple. It is well above the full dimple and the entire cross hatch pattern.

They were building 2015's before Oct 14, but I'm also surprised the online version has not been updated.

You can look up any vehicle on AMSOIL's look up guide.  They stay current on manufactures capacities.

ok, so 8.  thanks for that link.

Just weird man, I couldn't understand why the service tech said 'ya.. my 5.3 Silverado takes 9 quarts and some take 8'.

So i know 8 qts is what is told for a 5.3 v8 silverado 2018. But when i first did mine. i put in based on dipstick alone, which came out to be around 6.75 qts. But next time the dealer did it. They did the 8qts. I check it and the oil is crazy high. i couldnt even give you an accurate height. any ideas why mine seems way off? either way too high on the recommended amount. and way low if you go by the dipstick.

Dealer could have easily overfilled, since they may be using oil in bulk containers and pumping it in. The "tech" may have just messed up. Change it your self and put 8 qts in and look at the stick. Your 6.75 was incorrect

      Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.

      Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?

      Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.

      Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.

      I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
