Then i guess my salesman is a liar lol. He said hes had it on his acadia for 7 years now for free and he cancelled after the first 6 month

Yeah unfortunately that sales guy's remark does not add up. My wife had a 2008 Acadia and the app straight up would not work with the version of Onstar that it had. The key fob stuff worked fine when she paid for the plan but the app was a no go. I even looked it up on Onstar's website and it stated the vehicle was not compatible with the app. Like the other guys have mentioned 5 yrs for our trucks.

And on a side note get your trucks in for those 4 free oil changes before 24k miles and don't listen to the sales guy when he says the oil life meter must read "change oil soon" or below 10%. I followed his advice and now I'll never get that 4th one when there are clearly others on here getting oil changes at shorter intervals for free. Bummer.

Damn, well at least 5 years is still pretty good. Thanks for the info!

Golf buddy of mine told me that they wouldn't change my oil unless it was down to 10%. That's what his big city dealer where he bought from told him. I asked my salesman and he said "I'll make them change it 4 days in a row if you want", service dept said the same thing.

My trial was up a long long time ago. On the app: My key fob still works, sending routes from the map to the truck still works, diagnostic info on the app do not work. At first the navigation features were disabled in the app also after the trial, after an update they've been working again ever since.

I love the key fob on the phone, I've used it to start the truck several miles away riding back to mine with a friend to have it warm and defrosted by the time we got to mine. I've used it floating down the river in my yak to start it up too lol.

Better business bureau records too many complaints with onstar. Overcharges. Double charges and bad customer service and complaints resolve. I would advise against giving them a credit card number. Remember when you just hopped in your car and drove. No need for onstar. Your phone can provide a hotspot

It appears that by using the remote app just once you get to continue the service for 5 years from date of purchase of the truck:

"An active OnStar Directions & Connections or Safe & Sound service plan is required to access most RemoteLink features. However with 2014 OnStar equipped vehicles, when you download and use RemoteLink just once during your OnStar trial or consecutive subscription, you'll unlock access to the RemoteLink Key Fob Services, including Remote Start,9 Remote Door Lock8 and Remote Horn and Lights, for five years from date of vehicle delivery."

Yep, exactly what my dealer told me and now I'm out of the trail period and it works just like he said

My Bank of America VISA card has a feature to generate a one time virtual credit card number. I can set a minimum valid date of 2 months and maximum amount authorized for charges. It worked great on my old truck for SiriusXM. I would sign up for the 5-6 month period at a reduced price and call a month before it expired to cancel. Before that, they would automatically charge the renewal amount even if I called a month in advance to cancel. I renewed my OnStar and used the same setup.

I probably will not keep the OnStar after this year.

they made a deal with for 9.95 a month after my trial was up , then four months ago they sent me a letter stating it was going to 24.95 ,i called them to cancel they offered me down to 18.95 but I told them i was not interested . i said it wasn't worth that to me .

they then told if i had a wreck or my truck was stolen they would help me . i told them that's why i had insurance for .

they also told me i would lose my towing , i said that was ok I already had three other towing options , i think they were ready to hang up on me then

The new program moving forward from 2014-2016+ is full onstar app usage and onstar use for 6 months - then base program for 4 years and 6 months more.

Base program includes use of the app - LIMITED FUNCTIONS HOWEVER - only lock/unlock, horn/light and remote start.

I also strongly suggest retailmenot.com for siruisxm coupon codes

The word from gm is for a "warranty" oil change/rotation visit you must be at 20% or below. I work at a dealership and even the staff has to abide by this. Again, I can always go to service and change it myself for free after hours :) We are one of the top ten dealerships in the country, I am very versed in the protocols as I sell myself about 320-350 cars per year and customers constantly call me about this stuff.

You guys have to understand that at a large dealership every hour of service is logged and your vin is what attaches you to your free warranty things. Some dealerships will bypass this but the bigger they are the less likely to do that. GM Pays the dealership for the time and product - if they give it early, they might not get paid.

So if it helps anyone, I'm a first time ONSTAR user, and after my free trial expired, I decided not to renew. I live in a heavily populated area, so if I was to roll over I'm pretty sure I'd be found reasonably quick. If the truck is stolen, my keyfob app can tell me where it is... right... And the assisted navigation is junk. I spend about $500 adding the nav module to my 2014 and get great NAV.

I personally don't see the value in ONSTAR beyond the keyfob app....

I wrote a little while ago but I got an email saying OnStar trial will end soon. I had to go out tonight and used the Navy and for me it was spot on. Didn't send me all over gods green earth and got where I needed. I will once in a while use my phone app to lock or start the truck and always check my diagnostics ( oil %, tire pressure, ect ) on the app even though I can see that on my DIC. With the trial ending I can't spend $35 a month. What I'm looking to see from ppl that have let it lapse...will the app still let me lock and unlock and start the truck, will typing a destination for the Nav work as well as the Nav still work? I can use my phone and plug an aux cord to hear what to do but I like having the 8 inch display showing me where I am

I got a phone call from my salesman this week. He said that because I didn't give them an email address, the offer came to him. It seems OnStar want to give me three years of basic service for my 2014 Sierra for free.

I had never used OnStar and let the service lapse without responding to the initial offers. I never downloaded the app.

I am not inclined to accept, but I am curious as to what I would be subject to if I did accept this offer. (You don't get nothin' for nothin')

Did I miss another thread or am I the only one that was offered this generous opportunity?
