These things are not invincible, got pulled out by a Ford...

Got stuck in a local parking lot in a snow drift. 4WD was virtually worthless in that drift. It didn't look that big, but I guess it was :)

Thankfully there was a plow driver plowing the lot, in his Ford. Good thing for long tow straps!

I've had 4WD SUVs for nearly 15 years and never got stuck like this. Oh well.

did you turn off stabilitrac/traction control?

Keeping this on reduces engine power you need to get unstuck

I'm running the stock Good Years. Guess I need something more aggressive... Wonder if the wife will bite on that.

Yes, I turned off both features and even tried 4L in a desperate attempt.

Good thinking on disabling traction control and stibilitrac, 4low sucks as it doesn't allow you to get the wheel speed needed, worked good back in the old days when trucks were 3-speeds and 1st gear was tall, now 1st is so low 4low isn't needed plus it makes reverse tire speed slow.

Stock Goodyears. There's your problem. Never had a set I liked. I'll give them credit, they wear well, but anything other than a dry surface and I find traction is lacking. Had them on several different cars, trucks, SUV's, and the experience has always been the same. So I guess I should give them credit for consistency too...

Oh, and personally, I would never have admitted to getting pulled out by a Ford! Have you no shame?!

Right! They used to work in a pinch but I guess not anymore.

I taught this to my wife a few years ago in case she got stuck. It came in handy that winter as some guy got stuck in our subdivision and she couldnt get around so he had to help another guy push him out. She immediately asked is his traction control was off. He said no why? She said turn the damn thing off unless you want to sit here all day. He turned it off and drove away after giving it some gas. He yelled how did you know that. She looked like a genius, anyone with an manual in their glovebox and knows the features of their vehicles should know this.

Truth be told, we have 20 plow trucks in our fleet, and 15 of them are 2WD. Tires and how heavy your foot is makes all the difference in the world.

But don't worry, I did pass by this unfortunate truck while I was plowing last night....

You plow with 2WD trucks? They certainly cannot be standard 1/2 or even 3/4 ton trucks. Dump trucks?

I plowed for a few winters using 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and 4WD was pretty much mandatory.

Frame sitting on deep snow or just no traction?

Wow how the hell did he manage that one?

And as was said your tires are the problem here, the sra goodyears are crap to be blunt.

1 ton Fords with 1,500lbs of gravel in the bed. Does just fine. Our 4WD trucks have no weight in the back....but probably should. On most parking lots, 2WD does everything you need it to. Some tricky hills are better suited for the 4WD. Again, it's all in how you drive. You're clearing a clean path under your tires, rubber meeting the pavement is all the 2WD needs to work!

His truck only moved about 4 feet after he bounced off the curb. It was a slight decline into that curb from the street he turned in from. Oh, and he was 16..... Seems to have gotten lucky though. Not sure how much the brakes are affected, but and axle spline shouldn't be too bad.

Let's discuss the safety of who took the picture from under the truck! I wouldn't of even stuck my arm under there to snap a pic. That whole corner of the truck is being supported by a wedge tires/wheel assembly. dangerous buddy.
