Rusty parts under dash. Anything to worry about?

I was trying to find a rattle underneath the dash and saw this rust. Anything to be upset about? Kinda disappointing, but maybe it's not a big deal. What are your thoughts?

Can't imagine there is anything to worry about. If your really worried take it in. I'm sure the dealer will clean it or replace it. Problem is the part is bare steel and will probably surface rust again. You could take it off and paint it your self as well.

I had to take the back seat out of my 2002 model a few years ago and you wouldn't believe how much rust bolts and pieces of metal were hidden back there.

Well guys, I saw this and started checking around my truck - and you WOULDN'T BELIEVE IT, BUT the pipe thingies coming outta the engine are like ALL RUSTY - seriously it's almost like they're made of rust!

I've made an appointment with the dealer to see what they say....I mean, I know these trucks aren't made of aluminimumumum like the Fords, but rusty exhaust pipes!! come on!

Wow easy on the sarcasm. Rust on the inside of a truck is a lot less expected than rust on the outside.

The exhaust manifolds are raw cast iron, they will flash rust almost instantly even when they are freshly made in a plant somewhere. Completely normal and to be expected.

Yes I know I'm just kidding- I shouldn't poke fun though I used to be more OCD about my vehicles too.

I'm in metals for my career- you're correct irons natural state is "rust" - there are a wide variety ways to prevent "steel" from rusting- alloying, plating, ZN/NI/AL washes etc

Anything that isn't going to Be exposed to the elements and is out of plain sight doesn't really matter much if it gets a little rust on it so long as you can remove and reinstall whatever the part is easily.

I mean GM could make every little nut/bolt/tab/fastener out of stainless, aluminum, or have it anodized etc but you'd be looking at a damn expensive vehicle lol!

What WOULD get to me is if the chrome bumpers on these trucks start to rot due to poor alloying or plating- I've seen it happen on all makes, and sometimes happens QUICK - my bumpers are painted so not concerned personally, but it's a pet peeve
