for those who upgraded from 5.3 to 6.2

Well for me I went from a 2014 / 5.3/ 3.42 GMC to a 2016 6.2 GMC. The headlights are night and day ( and I had a HID kit installed on my old 2014) The inteli link /bluetooth is much faster, and better overall. Plus it has apple car play and soon android. wireless charging pad. Better paint protection on the lower panels.

This is almost exactly what I did haha.

 

I had a 2015 DC 5.3 with 3.42 and I ended up selling it and buying a 2015 CC 6.2 with 3.42.

 

I do not regret my decision at all. The difference for me is night and day.

Thanks for the response. When you say the difference is night and day, can you be more specific? How's the throttle response and shifting compared to the 5.3? More punch off the line?

That's encouraging. Thanks for the response. I just pulled a $1500 private offer so maybe that's fate to upgrade to the 6.2

Everything is better. The throttle response, the power curve, the shifting, etc. When I had the 5.3 it always felt to me like the truck was struggling. It always felt underpowered to me. I tried many things to compensate for it; intake, exhaust, custom dyno tune. Nothing made it feel like it had any real guts to it. I'm not saying it was a bad truck, just that it didn't feel powerful at all. Since switching to the 6.2 I have not felt any of that at all. It's always right there in the pedal when I need it. There's no more hesitation, no struggle, no sluggishness. It feels 100% better in my opinion.

I did. But my budget couldn't line up with the price tag. That's a beast

I have a 2wd 5.3 with stock 18 rims

My Buddy 4wd 5.3 with 20 rims

When. He drove mine he said it felt like I had another 50 horses, , I couldn't be happier with my passing power , our truck is the family ride, the 5.3 made more sense. But boy would I love to have that 6.2 someday

Note - with the 6.2 you need to press hard on the gas.. it has an extra "click" at the bottom of the pedal that most people don't know about. I was one of them, until someone on here told me about it.. Think of it as turbo mode!

like a few others on here I went from a sluggish 2014 5.3 6 spd to this beast 1026 6.2 8spd. I have my DIC speed alarm set at 85 mph, this dang truck is so quick it will surpass that with just a short blip of the pedal it is an absolute joy to drive. The last couple of months have been great fun.

If there was a 6.2 the day I bought my '14 silverado I would have bought it. BUT I believed the marketing and reviews and bought what was available a 5.3/6speed/3:08 rear. In due time I hated it. Had other issues also. Everyone said it is the rear end ratio? I traded in on a '15 Sierra crew 5.3/6speed/3.42 rear. Trans was always hunting, again very disappointed. I was kinda fed up for this kind of money, and was speaking with my dealer. He had a new trade come in, a maxed out '15 Denali 6.2/8speed/3.23 rear. I took it out and was immediately impressed but doubtful. It was mainly the 8 speed. But then I floored it and thought "this truck is almost too fast for it's suspension"! It was fast! Went home stripped all my accessories off my truck went back and did the deal. Very happy. Since then I have towed many times and put a lot of miles on her. The truck w/ this motor is the bomb. My fuel mileage is also better w/ the bigger motor?? 19 most of the time 22 if I am nice. The truck should only come with this motor as it is a pleasure to drive, and has less limitations. A duamax 2500 was not an option for my neck so this worked out great.

The 6.2 is definitely a nice option for those that "want" the big engine and there are those that can argue it is a "need". Barring the money value, I do not see it as an upgrade and would not choose one over the 5.3 or 4.3. When I read about sluggish response from a 5.3, I wonder about gear ratio's and tire sizes. My 4.3 with 3.42 gear ratio and 31.1" tires is very responsive and could get me a speeding ticket in the city or on the highway! I really like the diversity of choices available for our trucks. Options make our trucks different.

Yes but the topic asked for the opinion of those who upgraded to a 6.2, not those that picked a 4.3 or 5.3. Point being, very few..if any..have said they would go back to a 4.3 or 5.3 after the "upgrade". Here is as close of a comparison you will find...5.3 8spd vs. 6.2 8spd. Head to head for all out performance and Mpg hauling exact same trailer.

Funny thread, I doubt your going to find anyone who spent the money to get the 6.2 is going to say damn I could had gotten the 5.3. Now if you ask why someone chose the 5.3 over the 6.2 you would get an answer like mine. The 5.3 is only 40 less HP one E85 and you have fuel choices not just 93 grade gas. And when I bought mine the Texas package had most everything the SLT had minus the 6.2, sun roof, Bose, leather, and I paid 15K less. So I put in a tune bank the rest of the money and was a happy camper. Forty horsepower really? And only 93 gas not me.

You're right about that...can make several arguments for or against. Do what's right for you. Whats not debatable is the significant performance gains the 6.2 provides.

I understand. I like the conversation and was trying to add that not everyone may see the 6.2 as an upgrade or that "everyone inside wants a 6.2". I actually chose to go from a 5.3 to a 4.3!
