16% Off New Year Discount

Hey Guys,

My Sierra finally arrived, but the delay caused me to miss the 20% off incentive. I was really counting on that discount to make the truck affordable, as it would have brought the price from $60K down to $48K.

GM is now offering 16% off MSRP, which would still be very helpful. However, the dealer is telling me that this incentive can only be applied to certain vehicles which are on a list, and my truck is not on that list so I can't get the discount.

From what I can learn, the 16% off is achieved by applying Supplier Pricing ($200 over invoice) and the balance is Customer Cash from GM. This would mean that the dealer is getting the Supplier Incentive (2%) plus holdback (3%) for a profit of 5%.

Does anyone know how eligibility for the current 16% incentive is determined? Has anyone here bought a vehicle with this discount? I'm wondering if the dealer decides who gets it, or GM, or if there are rules to qualify, or what this list is about, etc.

Thanks for any information that can be offered, as I really need this discount to afford the truck.

The dealer gets to put any truck they want on the list. Ask nice & they can make it happen if they want to make a sale. A hidden trap is this is GM supplier pricing. You can't use your GM card points with this deal.

Thanks O J,

So if the dealer tells me that they have already assigned all the discounted vehicles to the list, can they reassign the discount to mine in the place of another? Also, are there rules as to what gets on the list (e.g. vehicles that have been on the lot the longest or something)?

They are telling me that they can not bend the rules for me, but I'm not clear on what the rules are. This is a very expensive vehicle and I don't think it unreasonable to apply the discount if they can, especially since GM is paying for it and they aren't losing anything as far as I can tell.

Thanks Again.

Was this truck ordered from GM? If so why was the full price not worked out before ordered? If a 2016 was the 20% on the 2015 leftovers?

If you don't like the deal then don't take it, your in control of your wallet, not the dealership.

Hi Rshad,

Thanks for your response. I was in discussions with several dealers to order a truck. Some time later, one of them contacted me to inform that he needed to order some Sierras for stock on their lot and he configured one with my selected options in case I wanted to buy it when it arrived. So that's how it got ordered without a price negotiated. I'm not married to it, but it is exactly what I want. Also, this makes the truck an "In Stock Vehicle" as the incentive requires, as opposed to a custom ordered one.

The 20% incentives were being applied to both 2015 & 2016 models. I'm trying to get the current 16% discount applied to my purchase.

That was nice of them to at least order it your way. Good luck and hopefully you will get it with the discount.

If your not "married to it" then walk on the deal till you get the deal you want. Many on this site have got 15 to 20 percent off with no major rebates going on. If Gm has 16 percent off deal then the dealer should easily be able to come off another 4%.

Get the deal you want or walk. If they want to make the sale they will do what they need to make you come back. I've had the best of luck at the end of the month. Bought my truck on August 31st of last year. They were 30 cars short of hitting their bonus and caved right away when I showed signs of walking.

Go with a 2015, you get a much better warranty. I can't believe how much they cut the warranty on the 2016's

That is what sold me on a '15. While we were waiting for paper work, we started talking about the 2016 models. The salesman right off the bat told me about the warranty difference because has had customers complain after purchasing the truck about the power-train warranty difference.

End of the month and end of the year. They will always cave if they are going to when you are walking out.

All discounts are just to get you in the door, you can negotiate from there, my 2015 I bought near the end of November had a sticker price of $52,900.00. I paid $38,900.00

I respectfully call bullshit unless you are a GM employee. That's 14k or 26.4% off. I just dont see it
