New Owner Questions

Hey Guys,

I just bought 2014 Silverado LTZ. It's a salvage title so I got a great deal. Only 7k miles, I had it inspected at Chevy before the final purchase and a few items came up.

1. Passenger window does not work properly. When I press the button to roll up the window it just stops and cuts out about halfway up. Then I have to keep clicking the button and the window will only move about an inch at a time. I figure I can just swap off the motor. I was just curious how difficult it is to access the motor or if anyone ran into any particular problems with this. I figured it would be pretty easy. I have a trim removal kit so I shouldn't have any problems. I will be ordering the following part. Part# 22921494

2. They lifted the truck and walked me over everything. The chevy mechanic said there were no alignment issues at all and everything checked out with the frame. However, when he drove it he felt vibrations. There was a small dent in the drive shaft and he said that was enough to cause the vibrations. I can barely feel it when I drive but I do notice it. Does anyone have a part number or recommendation for this? This should just bolt on and off right? U joints should be just fine and I think I can just replace the shaft.

3. They used a super cheap online leveling kit. The Chevy guy said it was so cheap it could possibly snap so I will be swapping that off. Does anyone have any recommendations? The high country one I came across had good reviews so I will probably go that route unless anyone has had really bad experiences.

4. Any recommendations to get a spare tire? I'm gonna go by the salvage yard but open to any other suggestions...

Congrats on the new truck. Have any pictures? Have you checked with your insurance company to make sure they will give you full insurance on a salvaged titled truck? I am in insurance and a lot of companies will not offer collision coverage.

Not on a salvage title you can't... as soon as a vehicle is written off, so is the warranty

Yes, USAA covers salvage titles. So I'm covered there. I attached a few pics...Also, there is no more warranty. So maybe I will be the ginuea pig for DIY repairs.

Does the window appear to struggle? Check the weather seals and the track before ordering parts. The track inside could be bent and overlooked in the repair process. If the vehicle senses to much voltage it will cut power to the motor.

Gm u joints are installed with a plastic seal for lack of better word that you melt out with heat to ours them out. They aren't really re usable. If you got a salvage drive shaft with good u joints you would be ok. Imo u joints are cheap I would swap them unless the used shaft had low miles. And yes the rear should unbolt and then the shaft Will slide out of the Transfer case/trans depending on 2wd or 4wd.

I'm not sure if previous years wheels bolt up our not on our trucks but you want to make sure the outer diameter of the tires are very close so you don't have any binding issues with the 4wd.

Not sure if you are pressing & holding the button, or just pressing & releasing - the windows are NOT auto up, meaning you need to press & hold.

If you are pressing & holding, disregard my comment.

No to change the u joint you have to melt out the plastic. The whole assy just unbolts at the rear axle then slides out of the trans.

Hmm I never knew you could get a 2wd z71 as it is an off road package or at least I thought.

The z71 package has a ton of features that are beneficial to your ride regardless of 4x4. Hill descent control, towing hooks, shocks, tires, rims etc...

I'm not sure why you would pay the extra for z71 and not the 4x4 but that's what the original owner went with...

They offered Z71 in 2WD up until last year as far as I know. 2016's you can't get them in 2WD. It is kind of weird that they were even offered in 2WD before.
