GM performance Intake

While browsing around the gm accessories zone site today I noticed that they now have a performance intake and performance exhaust system for the 2016's. Does anyone know if these parts will fit on the 2015's? I know I can just purchase the gm exhaust for the 2015 my biggest concern is the performance intake system. I would love to have an intake where gm cannot claim it has voided the warranty. The intake looks like a well built item. Fully enclosed with cone shaped filter and what looks to be insulation on the inside of the box to reduce heat soak.

Wow! $550 for what looks like just the box and element!

There's a bit of dynomometer test data on a GMT900 that showed the biggest gain from an aftermarket air intake to be replacing the OEM duct from the filter box to the throttle body. The AirRaid MIT duct is available separately for about $160-180 if memory serves me. That was the tested duct and has a good following here.

Most believe it's the big plenum, which are designed to stop resonating sound, on the duct that are the problem. My theory is its the corregated section that causes restriction. There is published computational fluid dynamics (CFD) data to support that corregated ducts restrict flow dramatically.

What is the new available exhaust? Is It a Borla like the one that is available now though GM?

With how some dealers are getting these days I would like to use the intake and exhaust as an option so they cannot say anything about warranty. Not sure I am willing to pay the price so may have to keep my eyes open for some deals on ebay. I picked up my front bumper plate filler pannel for $50 instead of paying full retail at over $100.

Has anyone installed one of these on their truck? Performance gain?

There is no way a dealership can blame a mechanical failure on a cold air intake. If the intake caused issues like a lean condition or something it would throw codes before any damage could be done. A warranty can't be voided just because you have an aftermarket part on it. If there is a failure, they have to prove your part caused the failure. My truck has less than 600 miles on it and I have the Cold Air Inductions kit on it.

I'm sure the performance gains are similar to all other companies that make them. Not sure if the $550 price tag justifies it or not. I mean. Some dealers can be a pain to work with and if someone wants to avoid the pain and hassle of fighting with them. This might be the best route to go with. I will hold out and see if anything pops up on here or ebay for cheaper.

Pretty sure it is, this site is the same path I took when I told the dealer to throw exhaust on it, it is Borla.

Sorta true.

In real life, the dealership can and has decided what's what, or in other words, what work and parts they will bill GM for warranty and the vehicle owner is left to either scream and stomp their feet in the service lane or file a BBB claim or small claims lawsuit. They decide, you deal with it.

I had a K&N air intake kit on my '98, but this time I went with just the Airaid M.I.T. tube on my '14. From what I've seen it flows just as good as a whole air intake kit. Even if it doesn't it looks better and gives more room to work on things. I don't think I'll ever own an oiled performance filter anymore and a dry filter I assume may let some fine stuff through. So now I'm fine with just the tube with the factory filter and filter box and using a factory filter that isn't performance. Especially when it's about $180 I believe and as far as I know gives the same flow numbers.

I put magna flow on mine with turn downs right before the axle. sounds great except for the AFM crap.

I had the Chevy performance intake installed today at my dealer. I figured it was worth paying the $30 to have it installed because then I didn't have to do it and its all covered.

Hey for $362.18 for parts, install and tax. I figured "why not?".

Had my wife drop it off at the dealer today and I drove the 5.3 tahoe. That way when I got home from work I could get in and give it a fresh whirl on the open road.

I like it. Responsive and very throaty.

I'll admit I am confused why both Chevy and GM use the same part number and same price for the performance intakes but show entirely different pictures! With Chevy you get the tube, filter and box. With GM you get the box and filter.

    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
