Another Dash Rattle Option

Recommended Posts

Been trying to track this down for a while now. Think i figured it out. While checking the OBDII port, I grabbed the HVAC vent under the dash at the driver's feet. Boy did that thing rattle. Looks like it's snapped on the right side and has one plastic clip holding it to the dash panel on the left side. It makes sense now why I've only heard it at times. I'm guessing once it warms up it tightens up at the joint and rattles less. If you are hearing a rattle, especially in 30-50 degree temps check out this vent.

i have a annoying rattle but its at the top of my dash if i place a hat or something on the middle of my dash it stops. i think the rattle might have something to do with the light sensor maybe?

Dash Rattle is real in the '14 and '15 year Silverados. I have a '14 and every now and then while driving down a semi smooth road, I hear it and it drives me crazy. Spoke to the dealer while it was having an oil change, and they came back and said they didn't hear anything.

I have not yet tried this, but maybe it will resolve some issues for anyone reading this post. I may be trying this fix real soon myself.

This is exactly what was wrong with mine. Took me a little while to find it. Good video!

WOW every once in a while this site amazes me. I have a spot on that dash plastic piece that was removed in the video that is raised above my dash right in front of me as I drive. Annoys the chit out of me. Now after watching this video I can see that there is supposed to be a clip right there. I bet that it is either broken or not engaged correctly. Next trip to dealer and I can be very specific with the grease monkeys about what the problem is

I have a similar rattling noise. I found that it is where the gauge cluster cover (Top Dash Portion) connects to the rest of the dash pad. I haven't taken anything apart yet, gonna find a "How To" first so I don't break anything. I'll let you know what I find.

I've got the same rattle, its at the the plastic area right in front of the light sensor, stops when I push on it and amplifies when I hit the top of the dash. I'm gong to take off that speaker cover/dash part this week and do the duct tape fix. Looks like a common issue on GMs.

Rattle is worse on cold morning when the plastic shrinks, goes away when the heats been on for a while.

Well guys, I grabbed some foam tape and some duct tape and applied the fix I posted about earlier. I wrapped all of the connectors under the dash cover with foam tape and placed duct tape on all of the connecting tabs on the dash cover. I will post here later to let you know if the dash rattle has been resolved.

BTW, I went ahead and replaced my drivers side pillar cover with a drivers side assist handle and I love it....here are a couple pics.
