With my 03 Silverado, applying the brake disengages/unlocks the torque converter.  So with this truck with the 8 speed, is that still true?  I ask because I applied slight brake while applying slight acceleration & feel the shudder.  So i'm thinking its not the torque converter.

My type of shudder is In accelerating and will start in any gear especially with a load. Not to noticeable unless pulling a load. Same as last one so it’s “ normal” but not pleasant.  It does not have the 45 mph  rumble strip problem that many others exhibit. Drive up a hill and start applying throttle. It will shudder 1500 - 2000 rpms. Harder you acc the worse it will. Not real noticeable but like anything if you know it’s there  you scratch it ??. End of the world - no but if your an old car guy with a bit of OCD you want stuff perfect.

Yep, exactly what mine is doing.  Feels almost like a missfire condition, but no CEL.  I'm an old car guy, & i guess I have OCD.  Plus pisses me off that it does this on a $50k truck.

I read something yesterday that said if you hold down on the tow/haul button for 5 seconds it will disable the anti-coast function.  I did that on the way home yesterday, & maybe my imagination, but truck seemed like it had more pep, more "get up & go".

I also read somewhere that with the transmission in manual mode & in gear 7, that it disables the DOD/Active Fuel Management (whatever its called).  I did that this morning, & it drives SOOOO MUCH BETTER.  No shuttering with slight acceleration.  Yea I know, it is also in a different gear, rpm level is higher, more torque.  This weekend I am going to disable the active fuel management (I have HPTuners) & see how it drives in 8th gear after that.

A big thanks to this forum for all the information shared.  I have a 6.2L NHT with the eight speed.  At 25,000 miles I noticed a slight shudder (especially going uphill).  Without the info of this forum I would have blown it off.  I took it to my local dealer (Everett Chevy in Hickory NC).  They made me drive it with Ed, the service manager (who I expected to tell me it was normal).  The service manager noticed it more than me and said it was good to address it early.  I am scheduled for an inspection/fluid change next week.  If that doesn't fix it, then a new torque converter.  Thus far a very pleasant experience with the dealer which is why I mention them by name.

Sigmonster, any update on your issue, did it get resolved?

THanks,

Scot

My truck goes in today.  They say I should drive it up to 200 miles.  If it still shutters, then I get a new torque converter.  I will give an update after the fluid change.

I got the new transmission fluid and filter yesterday.  On the way home there was still a little shutter (especially going uphill at 25-35 mph).  This morning I didn't notice any shutter going to work.  It is at least 90% better if not totally resolved.  I am supposed to drive it for 200 miles--if there is still shutter I will call them back.

I had TC shudder at about 28K on my 2015 LTZ 6.2/8 spd.  Took it in and had the TSB with new and improved tranny fluid performed.  Problem was eliminated.  At 43K now and all is good.

New & improved tranny fluid?

Yup, that’s what I was told.  If I think of it next time I’m in my truck I’ll fetch the receipt and post the info for you.  But, this info is already well documented on one of the other tranny forums if you’re really interested.  Just do a search.....

I had the tranny flushed they said no difference so they replaced torque converter. I still jave the shudder, and hard shifts. That was a month ago. Wondered if there was a different tranny fluid GM is recommending.

Yep. I went through all of this with my '15 6.2 8 speed. They did have bad Torque converters in early 8 speeds. They came out with revised TC and new fluid. I now have a mid 2017 6.2 8 speed and havent had one issue with the trans and it is very different from my '15. I only have 15k on her and am concerned it may sour but do hope the changes fixed that issue. programming is improved but still could be better. Occasional clunk but thats it.

Just a thought, but if someone is willing to do a total transmission fluid exchange on their 8sp to see if it clears things up using AMSOIL's fluid. Send me a PM with your name, email, phone number and UPS delivery address and I will send enough fluid for the dealer to do a complete fluid exchange basically 16qts.  Of course the dealer will state that it would not help or will not be covered under warranty. They tend to do that if you don't use GM fluid.   Since you guys are already having an issue I don't see how this will hurt and might help since it is a higher quality fluid than what GM puts in their transmissions.  I can only send to one person to see if this might work.  I can't be giving away free fluid to everyone. So who ever sends me their info, has posted in this thread their issues and will do this and share the results on here I'll send it to you.

An entire fluid exchange needs to be done. Not just a pan drop and filter change. Both need to be accomplished.

I would take it that this fluid exchange will cost you the labor to have it done along with the pan drop and filter change.  So you would have to be willing to spend that extra cash, but at least the fluid would be free.  (A $240 retail cost of the fluid)

Also when you have it done ask for the empty containers back. So you know, or hope that they did use the fluid.  Better yet, if you can watch them do it would be cool.  I can here at my dealership. It all depends on your dealer and what they will allow in the maintenance bay.

Here are the specs of the fluid. It meets GM DEXRON* VI, DEXRON* HP
