Sorry, but my observations put me in the other camp. I do blame foreign manufacturing as part of the problem. Sometimes it is a design issue that causes the problem.

What really pisses me off is they "GM, Ford etc" use these cheaper to produce parts, but DO NOT pass on the savings to the consumer. The prices of cars and trucks should get cheaper with the stagnate wages, and cheaper parts.

That's exactly what irritates me too. Where are the savings? I spent almost $ 30 to buy a license place light housing and lens for my truck from the local dealer and the stupid thing broke again in one year! The clips on its plastic body are too weak and they break. The part is a piece of junk and it is made in China. I bet the true manufacturing cost is about a dollar per part. And they have the nerve to ask $ 30 for this thing? It is the little black plastic housing with a lens on either side of the license plate on your rear bumper. After the second one broke, I bought an aftermarket one from Dorman, $ 9 shipped. Much better quality and has not broken yet. Another outrageously priced part was the tow harness receptacle made of plastic, for which GM wants almost $ 60! A two dollar part made in Mexico. I found an aftermarket one for $ 17 shipped and it looks exactly like the GM one, probably made in the same plant in Mexico.

My Dad until recently wqs an interior designer at the tech center...he know works for another major manufacturer.

Foreign made parts are a huge problem...theyve had to reject train loads of parts...wrong materials used etc.

The foreign designed parts are even worse.

It is not all of the problems but it is a huge part.

I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 w/5.3L, and my AC compressor went out this week at 40,400 miles. I called GM to put in a claim and the tech stated that the AC compressors are back ordered for several months at this time. Also, if the claim is approved, GM will pay for the parts, not the labor. Will let you know how that goes.... I am hoping GM puts in a recall for this issue as many people have been experiencing this. Total cost for repair is going to be around $1,000. I am extremely frustrated that it went out at such low miles. I really hope the new compressor is better quality and is free of whatever defect is causing these compressors from the factory to lock up on us.

Background: I was driving down the road only 5 minutes from the house and heard a belt screeching under the hood which quickly went away. Once I got home I found the belt between the AC compressor and the crank pulley was totally destroyed. I put a new stretch belt on using zip ties (easy) and then noticed the clutch on the compressor would not engage. I checked the fuses, none were blown. I bought some refrigerant thinking maybe it wont engage due to the refrigerant level being to low, that didn't work either. I then took it to the dealer who confirmed the compressor was frozen.

Picture of the belt destroyed, laying on the plastic and the rubber everywhere.

$120 later, the problem is solved.

Or do it "the right way" and swap the A/C pump yourself , then pay some shop $200 to put $5 worth of coolant into the A/C system for you.

Here are the parts:

GM denied my claim that I filed directly with them. I then filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, which they also denied. I have now opened a complaint with the Michigan Attorney General. Will see what comes of this.

how to make a pole to see how many compressors go out compared to leaky condensers? Emeralado's compressor went out today in a stink of glory. Maybe it will get my mine of the shakes.

You're welcome. My opinion added as much to the discussion as your complaining did.

Ya u and tnchevy sound like salesmen that will say anything to keep a good face whether or not its true. Now thats its year 2021 and lawsuits pending against gm for sooo many messed up ac compressors and condenser from shoddy design flaws to shoddy parts, maybe shouldnt be so quick to doubt people who obviously can sight a trend more so than yourselves.

This has to be up there as one of the most epic first posts I have ever read. Now if I could only figure out what it says. I think this may be a perfect example on why not to consume way too many adult beverages before posting...
