Leaving Gmc for ford

My first, a 1976 Ford F100 Ranger, was as bullet proof as a tank. The straight 6 engine never batted an eye. Most posters here might think the "3 on the tree" was a bit clunky, especially downshifting into first. But, it had manual windows and door locks, I was the power assist for steering (aided by a large circumference steering wheel) and brakes. I also had to hold the key in start position until engine was running...oh my, the horror.

 

I've only owned full size Chevy trucks since getting my license. First one was an '86 C10 that was a manual trans (granny transmission that had an extra low gear so it went L-1-2-3 so it wasn't good on the itnerstate), manual windows and door locks and didn't even have factory A/C. So my A/C was the vent windows. That's probably why I'm so used to just driving with the windows down and not running A/C no matter how hot it is. It only sucked in the '86 when it was hot and raining. Oh and someone that owned that '86 before me ripped out the radio and door speakers and not having the money to get all new stuff, I used a cheap boom box. Went through a couple, but I thought it was nice when I found one with detachable speakers so I put one in each corner behind the seat.

 

I'm not even that old (turned 31 last month), but I laugh at the people that act like they can't survive without features that they're lucky to even have on any vehicle let alone a truck. some people seem to want the vehicle to do everything for them and God forbid spending 1-2 seconds to do something.

Really, the oldest truck you've had was a 2000? This '14 is the first truck I've owned that is a 2000 and something. First was an '86 C10 Chevy and then a '98 Z71. Only owned full size Chevy trucks. The '86 didn't even have A/C, but it was solid and dependable. I haven't had any problems with my '14 in the 2+ years of owning it. The '98 wasn't dependable, but that was probably from how I treated it.

 

 

Do I really have to bring my still running 54 Dodge into this argument? . 6 volt positive ground, single barrel carb, oil air filter, 4 speed, dash fan, starter pedal on the floor...... And btw, no signal lights.

 

Now if only I could find a new windshield for it...... hard to find, 54 was a short production year and different than 53 and 55.

What do you mean, "really?" I owned an '86 Silverado long box, and a '96 extended cab Chevy. I was talking in context of brand new trucks. My new truck ownership started in 00, 03, 06, 07.5, 11, and finally the worst of them all, a '14 garbage box on wheels. I have plenty to compare it to, and I'd take any of the 00+ trucks in place of the 14. I'm only excluding the 86 and 96 due to creature comforts and cab configurations.

I'm guessing that you may be young, and weren't buying trucks 20-30 years ago.

Today's trucks are far superior from their predecessors.

I sure wish I was still young! I have owned a 1982, 1992, 2002, and now my 2014 silverado (the last 3 where all purchased new). I also have worked for the same company for over 20 years where I get a new work truck every few years so I have a good feel for what quality has been in the past and present. These newer trucks sure have a lot of fancy stuff in them but that doesn't equal higher quality IMO.

In my opinion GM is still behind Ram and Ford as they dont really have any features that are cutting edge or that arent offered by either Ram or Ford.

 

Although,as someone who doesn't really consider myself partial to one particular brand, I think its fair to say that every brand has its positives and negatives.

 

Coming from a 2013 Sierra to a 2014 Sierra, there was a lot more offered in the similar price range as my 13 on the 14.

 

GM and Ram have 4 actual doors where Ford still has the "suicide" doors on the ext cabs.

 

Ford has the ecoboost which has awesome torque, tow rating, and is actually pretty fast for a truck IMO. Although at launch they sold it as more fuel efficient, which time has taught us, its not really that much better.

 

Ram has the eco diesel, which I honestly dont know much about, other than its only available in the top end of the model line. I think if they offered that engine somewhere in the mid range it would definitely appeal to me. Ram also has air suspension as an option.

 

In the end, as I stated earlier, GM doesnt really have anything that you could point to and say, I need the GM because it has *this* feature or option.

To the OP. Don't pay attention to the haters and good luck with your new truck. I personally don't see how your post was offensive at all. I do hope you post back here after a bit and tell us what you think, good or bad. Hopefully it's all good. They're very nice in my opinion. I think all of the bashing and brand loyalty is absolutely ridiculous. I don't care who makes my truck as long as it's what I want. I considered an F150 Platinum but was concerned about the ecoboost/small engine and problems down the road so I went with a Denali 6.2. As others have said, all of the brands are great trucks and all of them have drawbacks. Just pick the one you like and buy it. Trucks cost way to much money to buy just based on the emblem on the grille. I was a brand loyalist as a younger person because of what my father drove. With age I realized how stupid that was and how nice it is to look past the emblem.

 

As far Vette goes... damn I'm jealous! It's on my bucket list.

 

After lurking here for a few weeks I decided to join just to thank someone who's being reasonable about this thread.

 

I'm replacing my 2005 Frontier soon and have spent a lot of time on both this forum and the F150 forums. I'm amazed at how butthurt folk on BOTH forums get when anyone even mentions another brand. It really annoys me since the Frontier forum wasn't nearly as whiny. Unfortunately with talks of a 3rd kid I'll be outgrowing the Frontier soon. But threads like this are important to those of us doing research on our next truck purchase.

 

Over the weekend I test drove 2 used trucks: A 2015 Denali crew cab 4x4 with the 5.3 and 3.42 gears and a 2015 Lariat crew cab 4x4 with the 2.7 eco and 3.55 gears. I actually had the same complaints as the OP, the 5.3 seemed sluggish as did the transmission, while the 2.7ecoboost had instant power and firm shifts. I'm still on the fence as to which brand I'll end up with as there's qualities of both I like, but people making a big deal out of a member stating his reasons for switching trucks doesn't help the community's image.

I bought a 2016 Sierra Denali 5.3 (8 speed) - For the same price as a F150 platinum. Don't compare apples to banana's.

My friend has a ford Ecoboost, great truck, but the interior in my Denali still makes family and friends go "DAAAAMMMMNN" while they don't even notice the inside of the ford.

 

The new transmission is awesome, with a $500 Diablew tune it drives and just feels better than the ford and it never feels like it is looking for a gear.

 

Last bit, no technology?? Magnaride?... Dude, this stupid truck handles awesome. (except on cement highways, god damn those gaps.)

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your purchase. You can't go wrong with either. If you can find one try out a Denali with the 6.2 engine. Big power difference over the 5.3. You'll find the power equal to that of the ecoboost. Either way they're both nice trucks.
