in 2014 Dodge was forced to buyback half a million Rams in an unpredecented ruling. Dodge used yo be ok I guess but they are total shit now. Good luck with your fiat because that is what it actually is.

I am well aware of who owns Ram. The fiat doesn't bother me. The buyback doesn't bother me (wasn't that 2015?). Keep in mind the size of the recall you mention (huge) was also the NTSB trying to make up for looking like schmucks after botching the Honda/Takata airbag fiasco. They were making a statement. Politics were involved.

Again, was a big GM fan until the 14. Never drove anything else as far as a truck was concerned. I didn't even LOOK at other brands. I have no brand loyalty any more. The way GM treated me, they don't deserve it. At least from me. That's the main thing I was referring to when I mentioned personal experience.

Some people don't like how a GM drives or how a Ford feels. Some don't like how a Ram looks. Whatever you drive, be happy with it. It's your money you're spending.

Personally, I am a lot happier with the Ram. Trust me. I never thought I would have bought a new GM truck and be that unsatisfied in such a short period of time. The newer front end on the 16s have me interested again. I think the more aggressive look is good. It would have to be one hell of deal though. Again, no loyalty anymore. I don't wish ill on anyone who owns GM, nor will I berate their choice is trucks. I know a few who own the newer GM trucks and all is well. I hope it stays that way for them. All I can do is share my experience.

The difference between you and I is you are guessing on Ram quality vs GM quality. You said so yourself. I have owned both. On the two trucks in question, Ram wins. I have twice as many miles and a third the headaches. That is not a guess for me. Will my experience stop me from looking at a GM truck ever again. Probably, but i am not 100 percent on that. Time will tell.

Sounds like you are trying to convince yourself not me.

Also I have owned both. 2006 Charger it was a POS and Chrysler was the worst to deal with when I had issues. Also it was in for recalls like every month like clockwork.

I had only owned GM trucks until my basket case 14. I switched to RAM because they had the best deal at the time and it was the first model year of the new f150. Wasn't going to make that mistake again... So far the Ram has been okay. All that being said, I have only owned Ford cars. Thunderbirds to be exact. 3 of them. 74, 84, and 94. Just something about them I like. Just depends on preference and personal history I suppose.

I was hesitant to buy my '14 because it was of course the first year of the new gen. But, I haven't had any issues with it. Well I take that back. The u-bolt nuts under torqued but damn wear everybody has/had that problem (not just with '14s) and took me 10 minutes to TQ them down so no big deal. The other was while the trans was in learn mode. I was hoping it would figure itself out and luckily I was right. After 2-3,000 miles the trans started to act perfect.

When it comes to RAM trucks I only would really consider a Cummins, and that's only if I needed a diesel only for towing and nothing else.

Dodge has always been shit. Well, maybe back in the 60's they were okay.

If anything, their quality has actually improved since Fiat bought them.

Well Graphic........I have owned Ram trucks, a 2004 1500 4 x 4 , then a 2008 1500 4 x4 . the 2008 started having electrical phantom problems with the dash just before my 80,000 km warranty up , they could not locate problem "lost communications" was all code would tell them. The problems carried past warranty and got worse and worse , they wanted to replace major pieces on my dime, with not knowing for sure problem.

I traded it in for GMC and have been pleased ever since. Won't go back to Ram problems and ram rattle boxes.

So, you've owned GM for most of your life, then you have one that is a bad egg and then you switch brands? I think you may be a little harsh on GM and a little lenient towards Dodge. My family has owned all of the "Big 3" brands at one time or another, plus one or two European brands. They all have their problems. Some people get lucky and don't have any. Some people are unlucky and have lots of problems.

That being said though, I work in the construction industry and I see companies that use and abuse their trucks until they die. These companies use all brands of trucks, and use them for all different types of jobs. Across the board, the longest lasting trucks that I see are GM and Toyota. I can't tell you how many old C/K and GMT 400 trucks I see out there on the road every day. (Not to mention, beat up old 1980's Taco's) I do see some mid-nineties dodges (Usually with the 318, 360, or Cummins Diesel) or early to mid nineties Fords (Usually with the 302, 351 W or 7.3L Powerstroke) But in aggregate, I see far more old GM trucks than I do old Dodge or Ford trucks.

For me? I'll take GM with confidence.

Your decision makes total sense to me. In your shoes, I would have done the same thing.

I believe the vast majority of GM trucks are great vehicles. Problem was that the one I bought was defective in many ways. I did not like the way it was handled by the salesman, the service department or the area Rep. Loyalty must work both ways, so GM lost mine. That is all. No more, no less. The only reason I stay on this site is to stay current. GM might get another go from me in a few years. If they do, I want to know what to look out for.

Some people are unlucky and have lots of problems.

It was a bad experience all the way around. I could have traded it in on another GM, but what kind of sense would that really make from my perspective? I was pretty upset at the time. I think if most others were to go through my experience, they would have felt the same.

Sounds like you had a bad experience with your GM dealership and Service manager. The area rep not helping is defintely a problem. I probably wouldnt of ruled out GM for the actions of my dealership; especially if i were a longtime GM customer. However i too have switched to a diffferent brand because i had issues with another. Save for Chrysler, i don't think i would say "never" in regards to looking at another brand ever again. Every make is going to have their issues, even the mighty covetd gold standard Toyota.

I can understand you there. It is very disappointing when you are loyal to a brand or company and they don't stand by you when you are in a tight spot.
