Leaving Gmc for ford

I like the new Ford's, especially all the options they offer, that GM won't. I still prefer the GMC's styling, interior design, and big V8; but if Ford still offered their 6.2L V8 or updated the 5.0L with more power and torque, I'd have a hard time not making the switch.

I'm glad you're happy with your new truck.

If anyone is interested in an update here it is . I purchased a 2016 f150 ecoboost platinum a few months ago and I love this truck. The interior is much nicer than my 2015 sierra slt , options wise the ford has a lot more to offer especially in the technology Dept . My mpg's have been 21.9 . To be fair I am a ford guy that made a mistake and bought a gmc last year

Hopefully your Ecoboost will last longer than some and actually make it to 100K. By the way, it's also not really fair to compare the highest Ford trim to the and not the highest trim GMC. Even though the SLT is the 2nd highest, you should compare the Platinum to the GMC Denali.

Also I used to work for a dealership that actually sold all of the "Big 3" on the same piece of property except for the GMC and Buick. With all 3 side by side the Ford had the cheapest interior and you had to get an upper trim Ford to get a lot of the same stuff you could get with a mid trim, even if it was a well optioned mid trim. So to me, you seem to get more for what you pay for with a GM or RAM. A good example was when someone bought a Platinum F250 and someone else bought a Silverado High Country 3500 Dually. Both was the same price yet you got a lot more for the money with the Chevy.

You spend your money however you want, I really could care less. Just giving facts and if you hate GM so bad and don't want to contribute anything to this site other than wanting to bash GM and upsell your Ford then bye. None are perfect, but you're just too much of a Ford guy to not be biased. And really the same could be said about me with GM I do admit. But, I also know if I had to get a truck just for heavy towing I would get a RAM Cummins dually. I honestly would never consider a Ford, at least when it comes to trucks.

Ford is pushing the Ecoboost way to hard though. I could be wrong, but I believe within the next year model or 2 that you won't even get a V8 option in the F150 anymore. Same for the Mustang within the next few years. Even the supercar Ford GT that they're coming back with won't have a V8, just the Ecoboost. I understand Ford wanting to give that option, but to push it so much that they want to make the V8 "obsolete" isn't a good way to go in my opinion. I really have nothing against Ford, or RAM either, I just think that's not a good move. It's too many V8 guys in the truck and Mustang world. Also remember when the Camaro wasn't being produced Ford just put a "good enough" V8 4.6 for the GT. So you had to get something above a GT to really have something worth having. Like the Cobra, Roush and Saleen. Then GM came back out with the Camaro and what was it, 1 year later Ford brought back the 5.0 to even compete with The Camaro.

I mean like I said, if he's happy then I could care less how he spends his money. It just seems like a hardcore Ford guy that was biased the minute he bought the GMC.

GOOD NEWS! My across the street neighbor finally got tired of the issues with his 2015 F150 and traded it in for a.. Dodge? Well that's a step in the right direction. He has never owned a Dodge truck before so he wanted to give them a shot. He told me his F150 had some hit and miss transmission issues as well as a slight misfire problem twice in the past 6 months (I never knew about the issues previously, only found out about them when I saw his new truck yesterday) since the Ford dealer is a "Auto Nation" dealer, he drove across town and talked with the sales manager over at Dodge/Ram and they made him a good deal on a 2016 1500 4WD Crew Cab Laramie- Black. Looks SICK. Only thing I don't like is the polished rims. They gave him a slightly better than normal trade in value, even though he disclosed that the F150 had issues. Apparently they said as long as it was under warranty they didn't care what mechanical trouble it had and they would probably end up just shipping it to auction if the Ford boys didn't have a good feel about being able to fix the tranny and misfire issues.

I'm very proud of my neighbor for wising up and getting out of the girlie F150 and going back to a real truck. And no more eyesore for me when I look out my kitchen window!

Issues with Fords are no different than issues with GM or Dodge or Toyota. I drivea Ford for a company truck and we have dozens of other fords, chevys, and dodges. They are not breaking down everyday and we have no major issues out of any of them (get new ones every 3-4 years). My 2012 model has 120k miles on it and I have beat the crap out of it just like all my other work trucks I have had over the last 20 years and it has held up just fine. I am up for a new company truck in the next few months and I hope it is a Chevy just because I just like GM's but getting a ford or dodge will not bother me either.

The Platinum is more comparable to a Denali, but I do think the current generation F150's interior is nicer than the current GM. Earlier this year I drove a 2015 Lariat and a 2015 Denali and I'd give the nod to the Lariat for the nicer interior. All in all they're pretty close in options and price when you compare similar trim levels so I don't think it's accurate to say GM/Chevy offers more for the price.

Not really fair to dis the ecoboost without facts either, it seems to be just as reliable long term so far as the 5.0 coyote has been, as well as the 5.3 ecotec.

I know it's annoying when someone makes a thread telling you how terrible their truck has been, but it's useful to people like me that joined these forums to do research on how we're going to spend $45k. And trust me, for every guy on here leaving GM and going to Ford, there's another guy on a Ford Forum that's dumping his F150 and buying a Silverado.

Tnchevy, you are way too reasonable to participate on an Internet forum ;-)

You are right but it does get under my skin a little when I hear someone say one brand is junk and the other brand is the best. I am a GM truck enthusiast and that is all I have ever owned and I keep them 10 years or longer (owned an 82, 92, 02, and now my 14) but when you do what I do for a living and get paid to abuse trucks it opens your eyes to reality.

All the Big-3 trucks are good and each have their flaws. Only the fanboys still believe a blue oval or bow tie matter more. It really comes down to personal preference. Owning a Ford or Dodge doesn't condemn you to driving a ticking time bomb and vice versa with GM. There are some people here who will go to great lengths to prove to us that we are on borrowed time with GMs, just because their radio doesn't replay music from 25 minutes ago flawlessly. I look at it like this, if I go to a restaurant and ask for a Diet Coke and the waiter or waitress tell me "Sorry we have Diet Pepsi" No thanks, I'll just have water. Drinking Diet Pepsi won't kill me, I just don't prefer the taste, but many people like Pepsi over Coke. It really comes down to preference and style, not some obvious glaring fault of each make. I prefer the styling, ride and interior of the GMs. Made in Mexico is of little importance to me, same with ass massaging seats, panoramic sunroof, aluminum, dual exhaust, knob shifter, round wheel wells or AC vents for the rear. I'm sure there are people out there who will key a GM or a Ford just because thy like the other brand more....sad

I used to be Chevy cars and ford trucks. Had two bad experience with our local ford dealer around 2000. Went across the street to GMC, they also sell Hyundais, now gmc trucks SUVs and Hyundai cars. For the money my wife's Geneses is the best car we ever owned. My favorite car was rear drive impalas, had 13, including a 94. They are all pretty close now as far as quality.

I don't blame anyone for moving on if they had issues with a certain make. I'm not brand loyal at all. I had a Tacoma before my current Silverado. I had a Jeep Wrangler before that, a couple of Ford Rangers before the Wrangler. I do think these days most people buy bang for the buck whatever that brand may be. When it's time for a new truck, I'll probably give GM the first look, but if I can't get a deal I'm happy with, I have no issue buying a Ford if there's a deal to be had.

I'm from Georgia. When I ask for Coke the server says "What kind?" and I answer "orange." Sometimes I'll answer Sprite. :):):)

Lol. I lived in Virginia for awhile and that's how it was. Here you get exactly what you ask for unless you reply "pop"

You already cannot get a V8 F150 Raptor anymore. Base is the 3.5L ecoboost ~350 ish HP the highest optioned one has the same engine with dual turbos running ~430ish HP.

*Please feel free to correct me / my numbers I dont really pay attention to Fords but this is what I was told ... on IG i think.

I figured the Mustang was already the same since I seen GT's running a V6 ecoboost I figured they would just 'turbo bro' those too. Oh and that retarded V8 faux sound they pump in the speakers (is retarded a bad word here? I believe that is in proper context)

The new ecoboost in the regular 2017 F150's has 375 hp and 470 lbft. No real confirmation for the raptor yet but leaks are saying 450 hp and 510 lbft.

    • Blazer is all put back together. Another hard-won battle. The 4.3 is not easy to work on in such an archaic and narrow chassis originally designed for an inline 4.   My baffle issue is solved. I returned to the OG junkyard but was ready for a fight. The Blazer I had picked from was stacked on another vehicle so I had no idea how the heck I was going to get myself to working height to pull the front end apart. I had seen an S10 pickup on the ground so I was hoping the part would be the same, AND, I couldn't remember if the S10 still had a front end or not. But I didn't need to worry because it turned out to be my lucky day. The yard had just taken in a '98 Blazer, sitting right up front, on the ground, with room to work around it, and the front end hadn't been hit. The baffle and all the clips were factory perfect. I also scored another good handful of odds/ends and the whole shebang only cost me $20.   Got everything back together and it fired right off, sounds good, runs good. I've got a little coolant drip from a lower water pump bolt (D'OH!!). I did the right thing and snugged it down a little bit, and of course that didn't fix it. Yet again, I will have to soak everything in coolant to drain it down to the water pump, remove the bolt, and attempt to re-seal it. Nothing is easy on this truck. Nothing. But now all the radiator plastics are correct, snug, and fully functional. No more rubbing on the cooling fan. It runs, drives (took it for a 30 mile drive last night), no Check Engine lights, EGR is working, no vacuum leaks. We're getting closer...   The replacement wiper motor arrived yesterday. The tailgate was already disassembled and waiting, so I threw that in. It works! Sort of. Two new issues on the list. While the motor is strong enough and the gears aren't stripped, the wiper is hanging up on the bottom of the rear glass. This is the old style where the lower half folds down like a truck tailgate, and the glass swings up, and they meet in the middle when closed. The glass isn't sitting flush with the tailgate, now that I look at it. No rubber bumpers that I can see for adjusting, so I'll have to look at the hinge adjustment to see if I can correct it. Also, the washer/squirter just dumps fluid underneath the truck. The lines actually run inside on the floor so I'm guessing the tailgate is soaked at the rear trim and the line is disconnected. There's also a drain there....probably for this reason.   The leaky water pump bolt was really disappointing. JUST STOP LEAKING...OMG!!   Replacing the window motor and a rear door speaker are still to do, and then everything will work. I want this to feel like a "good" vehicle worthy of dropping $600 for new tires before I do. That means no leaking first. I hurt, and I'm kind of cranky, so I'll probably take a day of rest and do the water pump again tomorrow.
    • Just saw on Jay Leno the new Scout. That’s the way it should be done.
    • EV's have their nuances too. Best to operate the current type of lithium batteries between 20-80% charge. No real need to charge until you hit around 20%. Occasionally charge to 100% when needed. Longer term storage, battery should be 50-60%. At least those are the guidelines for our iX. We've been exceptionally good to the battery in that car...easy to do when you can charge at home like we can.   EV's lack so many of the rituals and so much of the visceral feeling ICE vehicles provide, which is why I think they're hard to accept for a lot of gearheads. They're fun in different ways, though.
    • We have got a lot of rain lately, we needed it. Storms/lightning took out a floor fan. Dirt roads badly rutted from run off.   Power here is sketchy, whole house surge protector in the service panel and all electronics plugged into surge protectors. My biggest concern is my stereo, I've been an audio nut for years. $25 k in equipment. Stereo is on it's own special surge protector.
    • Happy Birthday!  I also turned 72 this year.  In some groups I consider myself to be a young senior and in others I realize I have serious years behind me!  In June I spent a week in the hospital due to a blood clot following knee replacement surgery.  The hospital Doctor assigned to my care specialized in Geriatric medicine!  He is a great Doctor but the fact I required this type of specialized care  made me feel old!  Aging comes with new challenges but I sure appreciate getting older!  It most definitely beats the alternative!!
