Leaving Gmc for ford

I would have loved to get the 6.2 when I bought mine. The differents 31k out the door and the 12k it would have cost me at the time stoped me cold. My Texas edition GMC wasn't a stripper. E85 was plentiful in my area so now we're talking 40 hp waaaay cheaper than 93 gas, and I can still use reg gas on trips. Then the gear, 373 or even 410, your cost per mile is still cheaper your paying the up charge for the 93 gas. If passing a 6.2 is your goal.

All I'd have to do is regear to 3.73 and my 5.3 would tow what the 6.2 with 3.42 is able to. And I wouldn't have to buy premium gas. I plan to regear anyways but may have to go as low as 4.10 if I can't find 3.73 for the 9 1/2" rear end. Again I wouldn't complain if I was able to get the 6.2. My only point is that people are acting like the 5.3 doesn't have any balls when it does. I also want to do a mod that I believe spurshot did which is to replace the TB with the 6.2 TB which would also require the intake manifold. I think he said it made a pretty good difference with throttle response since the 6.2 TB is bigger.

You are considering spending a lot of money on mods that still won't make more power. And no, gearing will not replace compression, cubic inches and torque when it comes to towing, especially in a head wind. It will cost you unrecoverable cash and MPG.

The 5.3l only has "balls" to those who no longer have the option to own the 6.2l.

You are in the same position I was in with my wife's Tahoe. Next trade, buy the 6.2l, and your position on 5.3l power will dramatically change within the first five minutes.

My wimpy 300hp 5.3 has had enough power to propel it for the last 137k or so, I'm not too worried about it.

In comparison to a Duramax, the 6.2 is pretty weak. You can go round and round on this kind of thing

Exactly...i wouldn't say the current 5.3 is weak. Compared to the 6.2 sure, the 5.3 has plenty of power. It's just not realized with GMs grannied down throttle programming. Throw the 5.3 tuned for a Camaro in one and it will still fly.

I guess you didn't read it well. E85 gets you within 40 HP of the 6.2. Any one who ever has pulled a load knows the deeper the gear the better the pull. Same with performance 410 gears goes through the traps quicker than 343. I would take the cheaper package say, the Texas package instead of the SLT and the 5.3 and save the 12K. Spend the money on the gear and a tune fill with E85 pocket the 10k I save. For pulling I would go 3/4 ton, my angle was performance not pulling, but it is the same differents. You could always go with a blower with the savings but that would be over kill if you just wanted to pass a 6.2. I'm speaking from experiance.

The 5.3 doesn't hold a candle to a 6.2 stock.... even an 8 speed 5.3 truck with 3.42's compared to the 6.2 is a sack lol. They aren't bad to run around with but even a 2.7 ecoboost f150 feels like a rocket in comparsion to one. I am going to buy another new truck soon and it will probably be a 5.3 Silverado....... why? Because for what I am doing with it I really don't care about it being a rocket. My 15 Silverado I have already is a 6.2 8 speed 3.23 truck.... and it's fun.... this one however will be for work duty only. That means a tool chest in the front of the bed loaded with tools and some gear in the cab.... My one employee just grabbed a low mile clean 2014 silvy with the 5.3 and 3.42's..... it's a nice truck and I get chauffered in it daily. It moves okay but pretending it can hang with a low 14 second truck when at the same track on the same night it wouldn't break a 15.5..... it's not the same thing. The 5.3's tune is sad but even an intake/exhaust custom tuned 3.42 geared 2015 at the same track i run at still runs a 15.1.... I unfortunately don't have the privilege of the sea level and below sea level negative DA tracks you US guys do lol.

About this whole post about your purchase... well this forum seems light in comparsion to F150forums which I have quite a few posts on too. I owned a couple F150's for a while and guys that mentioned switching brands and Ford were junk got a bunch of "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way outs" so I don't see a lot of difference lol.

There's has been a few people in the racing section turning good times with the 5.3 with a tune on E-85. Just trying to save folks some money. If I want to go fast I just hop in my 92 Chevy step side. Low milage 5.7 stroked, whipple, stage two built trans, MSD, 373, lowered beltec lowering kit, custom seats, kenwood amps, that I put in the pictures other ride section awhile ago. I bought it in eBay awhile ago with the money I save not getting the 6.2 in my truck. I don't mess with other trucks with that just mustangs, camaros, dodge cars and a few vetts.?

Meh...... the 6.2 is a lot more fun with a trailer behind it too..... just the truck they install it in is a wimpy sack that really can't take any tongue weight. Anybody can spend a mittful and buy some "built" truck.... and if you aren't a numpty... well I paid less for my 6.2 than most guys yammer about on here paying for a 5.3. It's all relative. It's nice having something that isn't particularly slow... still useful and doesn't have any of the issues of some toy... I'm not trying to save anyone any money though... I really couldn't care less how much debt you dump yourself into.

Yea, your right, the guy I bought the 92 said he had 40k in it. I paid 7500$. I've done my share of building and learn it's cheaper to buy someone else's headache and do some cleaning up. I've put about 3k more in it in the few years Ived owned it. About the cost of an installed whipple.

In a full on race from 0-100, if the 5.3 is on E85, it will only be two truck lengths behind the 6.2L. I took a trip in my friends 16 5.3L and it was very potent, much much more than my 10 5.3 with 3.08's. My 6.2 is an animal but 383hp and 416lb-ft isnt that far off the L86. In fact, you would almost be lieing if you said you felt the difference. Most ass dyno's couldnt tell.

Hypothetical racing is the best kind... don't much care what anything does on E85 since unless I buy it in barrels it doesn't exist here. Again... relative lol. I know what they do custom tuned on premium... so I would wager that beating a stock tuned e85 truck lol.

That's nice....but I can afford a 6.2 in the meantime and whatever other junk I own... love that argument. Lol. Who cares man... it's a truck and it's not a huge difference unless you are wanting a cloth seat truck from a 5.3 to a 6.2. Enjoy your truck and stop trying to justify your choices to the rest of us! It's great you enjoy and love your truck.. most of the rest of us are likely the same way lol.

The original question the guy asked was answered, sounds like your trying to justify your 6.2 perchase, a few people have answered. Glad you like yours, some people can get e85. Some people can't see the forest for the tress. Done with you, been fun.
