Leaving Gmc for ford

Yes I did, are you 5 years old?

The rest of the family is driving GM's and getting fed up with the problems and horrible service. My dads 2010 Silverado 2500 Duramax has been nothing but problems, and his 2015 Denali 2500 Duramax has been even worse. It's not an impressive sign when the brand new truck is less reliable than the 6 year old one. My mom needed a new vehicle, so we took her shopping for Ford's and were very impressed with what we saw. The buying experience was a hundred times better as well.

Simmer down chief! It was all in good fun. No need to get your panties in a wad. It simply is the fact that you always have the epic brand loyalty and jawing back and forth. My dad has always been a ford guy and my last 4 vehicles have my Gm. But I also own a 77.5 f150 as well. You just played into the fun with the mom comment and I just couldn't let it go. To each their own. I simply prefer a V8 over a turbo six Impo. And the body styling on GMCs is what sold me on my 2016 Sierra. That being said. I can't stand the new look of the Silverado that is why I went to GMC.

i dont blame you for your decision to switch. my family is die hard GM and i love my Gm vehicles. I dont think the 5.3 is a dog at all its the transmssion programing that makes it feel that way. there are times where i get so pissed off at the transmission that i will go and test drive a ford get a trade quote and talk myself out of it. and there are times where the trans feels fine and i really love the truck. i just dont get it....... I hate the fact that i have to get in the truck turn off traction control, turn off grade braking and drive in manual anddd have the range device just to enjoy driving my truck. Keep us posted on your thoughts of switching over. I will be here counting the days till my warranty is up so i can buy a blackbear tune........

I'll chime in with a little first hand Ecoboost 3.5l knowledge. I was looking to buy a GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate 4X4 6.2l and it didn't meet my expectations as far as interior appointments and features I was used to with my Ram. The F150 King Ranch meets and exceeds what I had in the Ram Limited. I've put a quick 3,000 miles on the King Ranch and I have zero complaints. For towing, I'm adding Roadmaster Active Suspension to help with the light springs (I guess because the truck is light). The Ecoboost is as quick as touted and the price for it is just OK mpg. I'm getting 18 on the highway and maybe 15ish daily. I really am not computing it. The 36 gallon tank is nice. The truck accelerates as fast as my Ram 2500 4X4 diesel did dragging my 24' car trailer. Just needs the rear spring help.

I really hope GM gets with the program with its high end trucks when they bring out the next gen. I'll check the GMC out when they do.

GM needs to get with the program? Other than not having all the interior appointments that you expected, your F-150 needs an upgraded suspension to tow and gets crapy mileage. It sound like you chose a car over a real truck.

My brother in law is a huge ford guy. My sister drove a Fusion with the ecobost. 2 weeks ago the turbo exploded and killed a cylinder. He vowed to never buy another ecobost.

The GMC would need suspension help, too. Sam Memmolo just did a segment on putting air bags on his new half ton Chevy (Sam's Garage) because his truck sags too much pulling a car trailer similar to what I tow. I spent $400 on the suspension upgrade. Not a big deal.

I'll take the performance I get for the mileage I get (3.55 gears). I can get better mpg's if I drive like a grandma but I don't. If I wasn't so spoiled with all the nice stuff, I likely would have gone with the GMC. I think the mid-line GM lineup is competitive with the mid-line F150's. GM just can't hang with the high end truck lines right now.

This like any other thread about brands, trim levels blah blah blah is all a matter of personal opinion and tastes. We all like what we like and thats that if a web forum convinces you that you should buy something then you are of a weak mind. The internet is essentially a popularity forum where if you find enough people to agree with you, then you must be right and lets face it if you look in the right places that will happen.

All that to say I am extremely pleased with my Silverado with the 5.3, I don bitch about the transmission because it isnt nearly as bad as this forum pretends it is and IT IS NOT A CAR it is a truck. Trust me I have owned very fast cars, many other trucks and cars from other manufacturers and my 15 Silverado is excellent.

So love your Ford, Dodge or Chev but GET THE F$%* over it people.

It sounds like some of you really want a muscle car but bought a truck. I have no issue power wise with my 5.3, can't see how anyone can have issue with the 6.2. I didn't buy my truck to drag race either. Some need expectation management.

Truck consumers are perhaps the LOYALIST consumer group out there. It takes a lot in my opinion to sway one away from the guild.

Being a die-hard GM guy, it took me 8 months to decide my problems were not buyers remorse and that I had multiple real issues. That being the case and GM not taking care of me nor the dealer I started shopping. I drove a Ram and I drove a Ford. The Eco boost had a lot of power if you spool it up. I didn't like the interior much, just personal preference. The Ram had plenty of power and it sound pretty good out of the box. The interior was a better fit for me. I bought the Ram. It's been a year now and I still like it. I miss some things on the Silverado. It was much quieter, etc. Overall I am much happier with the Ram. Mainly due to customer service. I did some research on the Eco boost and the hemi. Like someone said earlier, the forums are awash with people sounding off on what they don't like. It was easier to find possible problems than benefits of ownership. I honestly hated switching brands, and cost me a lot of money, but I don't regret it. It takes a lot of faith to invest what we do in our trucks, any brand. So keep in mind you may be in the same boat one day before you beat down one brand or loyalist, you may be that guy yourself someday. Just enjoy what you drive. We all deserve that...

I'd work on finding a better qualifier than roasting the tires... My 2006 with no more than 300 horsepower does that if I give it more than half throttle. All the traction control/nannies now are going to make that vary a lot, regardless of power. If I was looking at a new vehicle, the ease of maintenance/repair would be a big consideration, as well as payload. The interior layout would definitely be a thought, too. People complain about not liking the way their truck drives, shifts, or runs and then ask why they're so expensive; it's because people are willing to shell out $50k for a vehicle they don't like......

I know a lot of you guys have newer trucks. But, I love my GM's. I had a 2002 Silverado that gave me 350k reliable miles before I bought My 2010 Sierra a couple of years ago. I'm over 100k and loving it. I always add my own personal touches to my trucks, nothing crazy, and keep on truckin'. You definitely can't go wrong with a good Blackbear tune either. Makes a world of difference! Just something else to think about before jumping ship.

When I can, I get both.... I've had a 99 Lightning, a 2006 Harley F150 (supercharged), a Roush F150, a Spartan tuned F250 and this Ecoboost 3.5l is a nice substitute for them. Everything I own has some sort of a performance spin to it. Just sold a pro street Chevy II tube chassis car with a 540ci Merlin, I've got a 32 Ford that has a chute and wheelie bars (just not enough engine to need them, yet) and 6.2l powered Z06. I'm not your "normal" truck owner by a long shot. I wanted a 6.2l truck to go with my Corvette and I might down the road because the Corvette is a "keeper".

my grandfather worked for GM and my whole family is on the GM bandwagon, that doesn't mean i cant keep an open mind about vehicles. people are getting too butthurt on here over someone just explaining his personal preference change.

and yes the trans is that bad.....

oh and my 04 2500 would not do a burnout, i actually think i hurt the tranny trying to do a burnout, tow haul first gear would not do a burnout. the 15 will roast them u just gotta turn the bullcrap off

I don't understand someone's reasoning to come on a GM site to tell people they're switching brands. Do you need validation? Do you need support? Are you gloating? Buy the truck you want and join their respective board so you can talk up your new ride and talk down your previous ride. Do you really need our approval? Are people that vain they need a celebration they're leaving a virtual meet board? If i want inputs on a specific brand of vehicle I'll go check out their associated site. Like i said before, i don't expect someone who dumped a GM for a Ford or vice versa on any other brand to really give an honest perspective on the difference of the two. Everyone will talk up their current ride and talk down the last. Also someone's reason for hating their truck isn'tgoing to make me diskike mine.

Im no GM fanboy, my last truck was a Tacoma and a Ranger before that. OP hope the Ford works out for you.
