Leaving Gmc for ford

The 5.3 is for sure not trash not in anyway. It makes pretty decent numbers. Also damn pretty reliable as well and it's max tow rating is impressive at over 11k but at the same time it's horsepower/torque is not first vs it's competitors. Would have loved to see this motor rated at something like 385 and 400lb of tq.

Hope it didn't come across as you are one of "those" 6.2 owners...didn't intend that in the least.

383 and 416 would be badass all the time. But I also think GM has to have some difference in numbers vs the 6.2 to justify the $

I'm guessing that you may be young, and weren't buying trucks 20-30 years ago.

Today's trucks are far superior from their predecessors.

You are exactly right. I remember the trucks from the 70s and 80s....good lord!!!!! I couldn't see how anyone who has ever spent any time in those could say that they were better then today's trucks. Less electronics...yes. Better all-around vehicles....no.

This thread is pure gold!! When I was a senior in high school (1999-2000) my friends Dad gave him a brand new Trans Am WS-6.....baddest car on the block at the time (other than a vette)....325hp, 325! That car was fast as hell, scary fast...blew my mind...

My '14' Sierra has 30 more HP and I'm just about ready to trade up for a 6.2 because well....it has a bit more HP...

We all love our trucks, and at some point we all will want to upgrade power/interior amenities/exterior looks/etc. If a Ford is that upgrade for you, great! Ram? Go for it! For me, I love the looks of the GMC, I love how it hugs me when I get in it every morning to go to work. I can sacrifice some of the technological differences because I just love the GMC! (Except they could add a couple vents in the rear of the center console to help keep the climate comfortable in back seat)

Good luck with the Ford...for me, I want a V8 in my pickup, and Ford seems to be abandoning the V8...cheers!

This thread is very entertaining! My whole family is die hard ford except for me....I grew up with my dad's brothers and parents living in 2 houses right across the street and half of them worked for ford. I was surrounded by like 8 ford vehicles and here I was the only gm owner with my z28. I've owned like 8 Camaros in my life....fast forward almost 20 years finally buying my first truck and I was willing to give them all a shot even though I fell in love with the looks of the Sierra a couple years ago. I really tried to like the F150 because I could've gotten an awesome deal through my uncle but I just couldn't do it, just the look of ford and ram didn't do it for me....and the deciding factor was driving the twin turbo vs the 6.2, just couldn't get past the feel of the turbo and I hated the sound. I drove a 5.3 as well but I needed to have the most power available. I know it's not supposed to be fast but man it ain't too far off several of my "sports" cars! I even beat a cocky 335i the other day....not because my truck is faster but I surprised him and by the time he realized, it was all over.

there are times where i get so pissed off at the transmission that i will go and test drive a ford get a trade quote and talk myself out of it. and there are times where the trans feels fine and i really love the truck. i just dont get it.......

Yes this! I can't for the life of me figure out why sometimes it drives great and other times it feels like I'm towing a space shuttle. I can't figure out what parameters are causing it to behave that way. But you've taken your frustration a lot further than I have by test driving a Ford. I usually just push the gas pedal to the floor and yell "F**KING MOVE!" I miss my 2007....

Yep the really comes down to looks and motor preference these days. Everything else is not that important

Have you run into a 2 door 5.3 on E-85? I've seen impressive 1/4 mile times on this website from them.

ive ran my buddies 2015 Denali with a 5.3 a few times with my 16 6.2 Denali. Nothing off the line just quick 20-100 mph bursts and its about 3-4 trucks by the time we are done.

Sorry guys, even with E85 , the 5.3 cant beat a 6.2

At high altitude here in Colorado, and towing a 7k boat frequently, the only options I had were to choose Ecoboost (which does well in thin air) and the 6.2L GMC brothers.

I loved the Ford's pep, fit and finish, and more advanced tech. However, there are many F150 alum bodies reporting skittish rear end handling, especially under tow loads. I also tend to get spooked by turbo maintenance and parts requirements beyond 70k miles in any vehicle.

The GMC 6.2L won over due to much better towing manners and to a lesser degree, my admitted love affair with NA V8's for no fuss truck duties.

Fortunately, no tranny or wobble issues with mine thus far after 5k hefty tow miles. I added a few aftermarket features that were otherwise avail on the Ford (headlamp upgrade '15 MY, rear bed lock, and power steps). Service has been stellar. Only pet peeve is no keyless ignition and locks which is ridiculous IMO and I'm older than many here.

A Ford mechanic friend of mine is sick of the Eco Boost engine. That is all he does is work on them. He is Ford to the end but has no use for the Eco-Boost!

If anyone is interested in an update here it is . I purchased a 2016 f150 ecoboost platinum a few months ago and I love this truck. The interior is much nicer than my 2015 sierra slt , options wise the ford has a lot more to offer especially in the technology Dept . My mpg's have been 21.9 . To be fair I am a ford guy that made a mistake and bought a gmc last year
