Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. A deal breaker?

I have an Android and when I bought my sierra denali last month, the dealer did a firmware upgrade on it to get the android auto function. I used it the first day, and never used it sense.

I purchased the upgraded CarPlay/AA system from MVI for my '15, and while the whole purchasing experience with them was great, I find I hardly ever use it. The faster head unit is nice, but I lost the SD card reader, which I really liked, and also the ability to pause live radio. If I had it to do over, I would have just gotten the screen mirroring upgrade to use Google map full-screen.

Before I owned a vehicle with Carplay / AA, it was a deal breaker. I just had to have it. Now? Not so much. And I'm a real tech guy.

Now I am looking at a new Pilot for my wife. At first I thought about waiting until the '17's come out to get Carplay, but now we are looking at getting a good year-end deal on a '16.

IS this really a conversation? $200? Get it... don't be one of the those guys that comes back later wishing they had a certain option. Then going back and spending twice as much money trying to retro fit and hacking on the new truck in order to add the option they should have got in the first place. Just read the forum... LED bedlights, heated steering wheel, NAVI, leather seats ...the list goes on... all stuff people go back and add later for a lot more headache and money.

Just get the carplay.. you likely won't need it much, but when you do it will be nice to have.

Apple Carplay is 100% worth it for me. Absolutely love that option.

I agree, with the guys about the android auto needs work. btw I am not a android user just got the update for friends to try out/test was not impressed.

Apple Car Play, smooth and easy to use just like the phone, btw you don't have access to all your apps. Just wish we could have weather I have no use for podcasts.

I was actually surprised at how well Android auto works. Great for navigation. Picture quality isn't the best, but it's free and you get all the power of Google ... live traffic, places, etc. The only thing that sucks is you have to plug in your phone. seems they would be able to do this through Bluetooth or something..

Its to keep the phone out of your hands (let me tell you its needed damn idiots everywhere heck even walking its a issue, some Jacka... walked right through an intersection 1/2 through he was like oh shit! when he almost got hit) btw current Bluetooth SQ is junk! radio sounds better.

I was planning on getting the CarPlay module but the more I think about it seems you can do more with the screen mirroring. Not only that but it's cheaper and the new screen mirroring version that MVI offers looks real nice

Carplay and AA are very limited what they show and there are few apps. I would think screen mirroring would be better in the long run.

The things I like about CarPlay is Siri is built in so I can do any phone commands through my normal system. The navigation setup on apple maps through CarPlay is also much better than the stock navigation system IMO. I have tended to use it more, kind of wish I hadn't paid for the stock system.
