2014-2016 gen better than previous Gen?

Moving from a GMT-900 to a 2016, all I can say is 'wow'. Better in every way, except for the crappy seats. And the distorted dash plastic. I think time will tell in the long run for me.

Dash cracking in the 900s is common :(

I've had one 400, two 800's, and two 900's. About the only thing I liked better about the 900's was the boxed frame and the ride quality.

I prefer the 800 series myself. I think the seats are more comfortable, no AFM, no TPMS, better paint, and i like the styling better. I don't think there was one thing I liked about the 400 series I had. As for the K2's I've only ever driven one once, and i didn't really find it appealing, but it was a nice truck.

Shoot, I forgot about that. My dash cracked in year 7 at 200,000 km, so it wasn't that big of a deal.

My 9 month old 2015 Crew 5.3 has had frame rust (fixed by dealer w complete re-TAR, not wax) a click / clunk in steering wheel, (fixed 2 weeks ago and still silent, but we'll see....) and a dash rattle that beyond annoying but I'll find it, I hope.
Dealer jokes to drive over less bumps, but I live in Pennsylvania......

Overall happy w this, my first new truck, but, and we'll see, it's got 9200 miles.....on her.

Love the comfort and styling of my Chevy over Ford or Dodge.

I think a lot of the current platform haters who talk about how behind GM is of Ford neglect the current K2 was in essence limited by the 2008 bankruptcy. GM couldn't knock it out of the park with the K2 with the fiscal constraint it was under. The next Gen 1/2 ton will be the telling tale if GM can truly be innovative and push Ford in the market. There was an article in USA Today recently that said GM was making a lot of progress in bonding aluminum to steel where Ford has had to rely on adhesives, so while we haven't seen the innovation persay in the current GM products, GMs R&D is doing some innovative things ahead of Ford.

100% true. GM has some tricks up their sleeves for sure, and the Corvette and CT6 are just the tip of the iceberg that is ahead for them.

For GM, its def. a matter of they got beat by Ford to an aluminum truck due to their troubles, rather than people going on about how they are now going to "copy" Ford. There were rumors that K2 was supposed to debut with an aluminum body. Ford probably heard through the grapevine, and then GM went bankrupt, then Ford went full steam ahead on beating them to the punch. Its more like, CAFE creeping up is a real thing and everyone has to get smart for these trucks to survive. Alternative and some exotic materials will play a big role for every truck on the market within the next 5-10 years.

What is the latest with next generation truck ? Last I heard it was going to come out in 2018 as a 2019 model. I am curious to see how much aluminum and what other light materials are used . Going to be interesting to see what direction they go with engine line up and if they go with some sort of turbo charged engines. I did read they are working with Ford on a 10'speed transmission which is suppose to be in the new Camaro coming out.

My 14 GMC, was the best of any past vehicle iv owed even the sport luxury car my wife drives. As far a quiet and smooth. If it wasn't for my new hobby since retirement ( uber) I'd still have it. The mid sized SUV I drive now is easier for the older folks to get in and out of.

Great responses! I am not crazy than? Most people do think the 900 was actually built less like a rock then the 800's

I can't stand Ford, but man I could have used a couple of their bucket seats over the years.

Also: We have couple of 800's still in employee parking lot and one of the guys told me he is never getting rid of the truck absolute rock! The other is a Red GMC and still looks pretty dang good.

I stopped buying and owning GM for a few years because of the GMT900.... the things were junk for where we work.... couldn't keep a front end in them (half tons), uncomfortable seats, ugly interior, etc... I own a 2015 and my old 2005.. there are lots of things I miss from the 2015 while driving the old 05..... although since I swapped a set of mint seats from a low mile wreck into my 05 I still prefer those seats over the 2015's. I know the oilfield fleet has here has had less maintenance costs in the same time frames and probably even longer run times with the K2XX 1/2 tons than they were with the GMT900's. I would say they are improvement.

I do it almost evey day for a couple hrs. Two reasons I like to drive, feeds my addiction for new cars and the excuse to buy them. It's been all good no hassles.

I avoid all that, I start after rush hour and stop around 2 in the afternoon. Just a hobby get paid to drive around, keep me in new cars. It's amazing the conversations and the people you meet. I'm not really a people person, it's opened a side of me that I didn't know was there. Young people ask me life questions like how I was able to retire and how I'm still married after 42 years. Very entertaining.

Better truck initially. Was a bit disappointed in the 08, but the 14 initially was pretty awesome. Should have waited a year or two before I bought the newer style.
