Interesting led headlight situation

First I have to say as bad as the 14-15 halogen projectors were, these new led headlights blow them away. I'm amazed by them. However my truck is stock, and these new headlights are so bright I have people pulling over to let me by. At first I thought they were adjusted wrong but the height is right. Below the mirrors on cars in front of me. They also drown out the cars headlights beams in front of me around the sides of their vehicles. They don't glare, because the cutoff is sharp so I figure it's just as I crest hills behind vehicles that's causing the problem. Either way it's nice to have properly bright headlights for the money we spend on these trucks.

Couldn't agree more.

My '16 happened to come with the LED headlights with the Intellibeam. I really didn't appreciate what that meant when I was shopping for the vehicle.... until I drove it that night...

At first, it was a little unnerving to me as the brights came on by themselves, and then dim by themselves.

I only had an '07 with the halogen BULBS (which were a royal pain in the back of the front to replace). But, compared to the '07, the LEDs are over the top.

I also like the light spectrum of the LED white. Makes it easier for my old eyes to see at night....

They work so well, I can't even see the "greetings" directed to me by oncoming motorists!

The cutoff is a little severe but I understand why.

Had the same issue on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit...people were constanty brighting me. It got old after a while. Happened most when I crested hills. People were always flashing their high-beams at me.

Question---do the Sliverado and the Sierra share the same headlamp units? I know they look different for the front design. I'm just curious if both are crazy bright. I haven't seen them at night yet or noticed anything odd with them around my area. I do know that the Jeep GC Summits and SRTs use the same lights and they are extremely bright. Almost piercing to oncomming traffic.

Just curious is they are the same bulbs on both.

I have a 15 but it's presently in the body shop so whilet driving the rental Exploder I had a 16 Silverado pass me on a 4 lane but instead of doing so quickly he sat in my mirror for an extended period of time. I eventually had to slow down because the lights were just far too bright and obnoxious. That said part of the reason my 15 is down for the count is because the crap halogens didn't pick up a 4 legged critter in the ditch until it was too late. I'm opting for extra lighting when I get it back.

I suspect tey are the same technically, but different cosmetically.

The led projectors are the same, but that's about it.

I really like the light spectrum too. I came upon a deer on the side of the road that normally I'd barely of seen with my halogens, and the led lights made the deer very noticeable. Turn on yours during the day, and you can actually see the reflection of the three led chips in the lens.

Are the lights really piercing bright or is it the wide angle of the beam being projected? Just curious. My 2015 Grand Cherokee had Xenon OEM bulbs that would spread the beam way out to the side catching other drivers when they would get close to me. To was far worse when I was driving back roads with elevation changes. The beams were bright and wide like a flood light on steriods. On any given night I would get flashed about a half-dozen times. Some drivers would go a little crazy over it.

I haven't seen the new lights at night, but I'll have to check this out. There are so many Silverado/Sierra trucks on the road that you would think that this would have resulted in some changes for 2017 if people are complaining about it. But, it also could have fallen on deaf ears like the Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit/SRT lights. They are obnoxiously bright.

The LEDs are whiter - closer to noon sunlight - as measured in degrees Kelvin. I would guess somewhere like 4000*K but possibly inching toward 5000*K.

The rods and cones in the human eye actually see better in that wavelength, opposed to nearer the yellower end of the spectrum. (2500-3000*K). The CRI, color rendering index, is very high for most LED meaning what you see is also more accurately depicted color-wise.

You may note your own local communities/cities adopting the use of LED street lighting, in no small part due to these increased visibility issues. They are highly aimable and certainly use less energy to generate equivalent lumens (such as from HID or even high pressure sodium).

so op...yer truck is a 16 then?

Yes it is. 16 with a 6.2l.

These have a nice hotspot that is piercing, but I must day they spread the beam really well.
