Do you lube your truck tailgate?

"The new 2014 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 feature an available EZ Lift-and-Lower Tailgate (RPO PPA) that aids in raising and lowering the tailgate.

The new tailgate uses an internal torsion bar to reduce the effort needed to raise and lower it, while a rotary damper allows for a more gradual lowering motion when opening it. The tailgate is also easily removable without tools.

The left tailgate hinge incorporates the assist mechanism. (Fig. 6) The hinge must be lubricated to ensure its proper operation.

Spray Super Lube® Synthetic Multipurpose Lubricant into the inboard side (Fig. 7) and outboard side (Fig. 8) of the left tailgate hinge assembly during scheduled maintenance visits. The hinge can be lubricated with the tailgate on the vehicle.

I didn't know that - thanks!

Always did on every vehicle. I use white lithium grease. Do all the door hinges and hood hinge/latch while you're doing the tailgate.

New forum member here, I just bought a 2014 Chevy High Country and this is a question I had. Is there any adjustments to the EZ lower mine seems to catch only if I open it and lower half way then let go. Otherwise the soft lower seems not to be there. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the tip. That is something I will be doing just shortly! Mine is a 14 and has not been lubed since I have had the truck. Previous owner probably never hit it either.

I noticed on mine if I close it very lightly, it's super easy to open. If I close it hard, the handle isnt as easy to open it. It still drops down semi slow, but I also have line-x so the added weight makes it come down faster.

No attempt to derail but I have a pertenant tailgate question.

After about 12 months I noticed my tailgate EZ-lower no longer functioned. After inspecting I noticed the plastic ring on the passenger side mount was all busted up. I asked about it at service and they replaced under warrenty, HOWEVER they replaced it with a different looking plastic piece (I shall take a pic and edit post), basically it is thinner. Now my tailgate falls till a certain point and then goes slow. I could also swear that it is already worn a bit and falls nearly all the way down before going slow.

I believe as a recent conslusion the cause may be my dog who is always in the back and usually too excited to get out if we go out for a hike or to the park and he jumps on the tailgate before it is fully lowered when getting out. My question is has anyone else noticed that the EZ-lower seems to just wear over time even in normal use being a plastic piece that 'operates it' ?

Silicon sprayed the thing a few days ago. Gets squeaky if I don't. I might try coating it in bearing grease one of these times to see if it lasts longer.
