Personal Best MPG?

Recommended Posts

I traded in my 2015 Sierra 1500 with 5.3L V8 and max towing package in primo condition for a 2016 1-ton Denali with Duramax 6.6L diesel (don't ask why). My Sierra typically got 18 mpg on the highway, and could touch on 20 if driving downhill from Cheyenne, WY to Denver.

Yesterday, I drove quite a ways in the new Denali to get to 500 miles on the odometer, since I need to tow a trailer tomorrow and thought I'd make sure the drivetrain was broken in. I know there are those who don't agree with the need of a break-in period, but that is not the focus of this post.

Anyway, I averaged 25.7 mpg! Even with babying the throttle, that seems like some kind of record-high mpg. (Attached is a photo as proof). I am amazed. Is this typical? Is my new 1-ton actually an eco-green Prius-ized truck?

Please let me know if you've beaten that!

Thanks

13.4 drove from chicago to stl this weekend with my dirt bike in the back and hauling a small 4x8 utility trailer, had the cruise set at 75 on interstate 55 (no hills).

New 1 ton SRW Denali here as well.

25.7 is awesome. My personal best is 23.1 with an average of 20.4.

What I have found helps me out is if I lightly accelerate down the small hill's ( no mountains in S. Ms. ) and coast up as much as possible.

The improved economy in the new truck is a godsend compared to the economy I used to get in my 2011 F350 DRW. Which never went over 17.6 mpg no matter how much I tried to feather the skinny pedal.

'15 6.0, my lifetime average is hovering around 13-14 mpg for all miles... gravel roads daily, highway, in town, off road, hauling, etc. For road trips (300 miles or more - unloaded) it has consistently gotten 17-18 mpg each time. Hand calculated several times and DIC is only off by a tenth.

Well driving at 74 miles a hour and its had less than 1,000 miles. a 2016 Diesel Denali 4 x 4 Dually,it hit just over 21 MPG on that run. I continue to get surprised on the mileage compared to my '14 I traded for this one.
