2017 Owners what key fob did your truck come with?

I am glad that I am not the only one that hates the key fob. I loved the key fob from my 2012 Cruze and I thought the salesman was joking when he gave me the keys to my 2014 Silverado. It bothers me more than it should, and I can admit that at least.

I personally don't care that it's plain-jane bland black... I hate it because it's separate from the key.

I'm 40 years old, and this is the first (and newest!!!) vehicle I've ever owned that had a separate key and fob.

I've had keys with a built-in fob, and fobs with a built-in key.... no idea why neither of those concepts have managed to make it to these trucks yet....

You and I are a lot alike lol.

I have an extra keyfob that I was toying with the idea of making a flip key, but once I read that someone else tried it and because of the shift lever hitting it, I just accepted it.

My truck did not come with a remote start, if I get one installed (aftermarket) do those key fobs replace the factory one or do you have to carry both?

Both

It may be a way where you can have factory remote start, but if you install aftermarket then you'll need to carry both.

I have the same black remote for my 2015, but I can't complain given that my last truck didn't even have keyless entry.

Lol no, if you get aftermarket remote start installed the fob should unlock the doors too

Look at what he asked. He was asking if he installs aftermarket remote start if the remote start button on the factory fob would work, which it won't. So if he got an aftermarket remote start then he would need the factory fob for doors and then the stand alone remote start fob.

I'm saying that if he installs aftermarket remote start that the keyfob that comes with it will start the truck as well as unlock and lock the doors. So no need to carry around two fobs. I'm sure there are cheap systems that do not come with a fob that has all the buttons on it, but that would be a pretty silly purchase IMO.

I'm no expert on remote starts but after I got my truck, my wife was extremely jealous. So last Christmas she got one on her camry. She picked one out that has a phone app as well, so it wasn't really cheap, But it only came with a 1-button fob to start the engine. Its not a big deal for her to keep it in her purse.

But I found out on accident that her toyota key fob also will start the engine if you hit the lock button the right number of times or something, because I accidentally started it a few times. Her stock fob does not have a remote start button.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for any confusion. My factory key fob does not have a remote start button, just the lock, unlock and alarm. I will look into getting an aftermarket remote start that has a key fob that would also lock/unlock the doors. That way I would have the benefit of remote start and also get a better looking key fob.

The cheap looking key and fob is real disappointing. You handle it every day. Especially when Ford will give you a switchblade key even on certain XL (base) trims. Though to be fair the rest aren't any better. Ram's key is ugly unless you get a keyless one and Tundra's key looks like it came from a 2002 Camry.

The fact that these trucks don't have push button start yet is very disappointing.

My '16 Platinum F-250 didn't come with a switchblade key, but the key and fob is all one unit.

Be glad these don't have the push button start where it senses the key fob so you don't need them. With anything that's supposed to make life "easier" come with it's own problems. I've read people on here say they were the passenger and got dropped off so the driver drove off without the key. I also had something happen while I was in parking deck a week ago. I turned the corner looking for a spot and here comes a new ('15 or '16) Cadi slowly backing out of a spot. I beeped the horn so they knew I was there but it kept backing so I had to quickly put it in reverse and back up so I wouldn't get hit. Well turns out nobody was in the car. The person forgot to put it in Park and it was still running and of course had the push button start. Luckily it didn't hit anything before it stopped and came very close to hitting a big column. I was actually going to be nice to put it back in the spot, but not having the key anywhere near it wouldn't go anywhere. So all I could do was put it in Park for them and lock the door. Luckily it wasn't in driving lanes so it was out of the way.

I don't care for the prox key either, I just think the fob is nice. I'm hoping to get back into a truck next spring and it'll likely be a GM but little crap like this bugs me. I've driven just about everything Chevy makes and even the subcompacts have a cooler key.
