Forward/Reverse Cameras used as "Dash Cams"

This may be a short lived topic.

Has anyone found a way to use both cameras as "dash cams?" Got a few speed-freaks out here that I would love to get video of them just about taking both bumpers with them, and turn that over to a few CHP friends of mine.

This is what you are looking for.

Also reporting to your cop friends is meaningless and they should have already told you this. If everyone could just turn over video and get people busted I would just photoshop up some video of people I hate and voila. That is a big can of worms to open my friend. Still a good idea for insurance reasons however.

Now the thread is dead.

Won't work. The front has no actual video feed that has ever been found by an end user. The rear has resolution of a 1997 flip phone. Too many very cheap 1080P options out there.

Ya the reverse camera is horrible. Which is sad because my mom's 2011 altima has one of the best back up cam resolutions I've ever seen :(

Maybe we could upgrade the reverse camera.

Anybody know how to get the rear camera to come on while moving forward in drive? A friend of mine has a tundra. While driving at speed (over 50 mph), he put the shifter in reverse and it makes the camera appear while the transmission remains in drive. It would be handy every now and then. Does Silverado (2016) have a similar feature?

Mvi navigation I think it's called. He posts here offend with his services on the tough screen and navigation upgrades for the gmc trucks. He has the option / ability to enable that function.

I don't think most people would be comfortable shifting into reverse at 50 mph+...

I run one of these in every car/truck I own. For a few extra bucks you can get the wiring to direct wire it so it turns on and off with the key. Good little camera, HD video and great nite vision. I caught a guy laying in the road at 1 am out in the country. Caught it all on the dash cam... Have one in the vett and one in the Trailblazer I sold. Just like the commercial, set it and forget it... until you need the footage.

Tell you what, you go ahead and try it, and then let us know how it turned out. My solution for what you want it to do, wire in a power lead to the camera, with a switch in-between.

Doesn't the new trailering camera kit GM is promoting permit that?

Cameras under both mirrors, one for the back of the trailer and an optional 'cargo cam' IIRC.

It is available on the 1500s as well. NOt just HD models.

But you do have to buy the camera mirror separately from the package.
