Keep my 1500 or look into a dmax...

gone are the days of a diesel engine lasting longer than a gasser without having big money issues

and the mileage is the same. diesel costs a little more.

only reason to own a newer 2008+ diesel is if you need the puling power. I wouldn't want one out of warranty that's for sure

Compared on even playing fields, the extra cost of diesel and DEF, and additional oil and filters...the difference in cost per mile between a diesel and a 6.0l is closer than we think. I know my Cummins was 19mpg average, and my 6.0l is far cheaper to own...even as a daily driver. Just an oil change...12 quarts versus 6 quarts.

Duramax holds 10 qts (I have no idea what the cummins holds)

OP was asking about 1500 vs Dmax. While the 6.0 holds 6 qts, both the 5.3 and 6.2 hold 8qt (so we are comparing 8 vs 10)

1250 or so miles per gallon for DEF and about $5 per gallon, so $0.004 per mile.

Definitely happy I made this thread feels good gathering a bunch of opinions my good friend just wrote off his 06 dmax then went with a 08/09 6.0 gm loaded few weeks with it and he doesn't like it he's selling it now to go back to a diesel just not a gas truck guy he tells me.. Thought process was diesel truck= long life when looked after can handle heavy kms on a motor and handle a lift tires better and being able to tune it. Now that being said I tow every so often but I have not yet driven a 6.2l truck yet I want a truck that's going to last a long long time that's why I figured a diesel would be nice especially with a small slip tank

And how much is the DPF that isn't a matter of if it fails but when it fails?

UPDATE went to my local chevy/GM dealer looked at a few 6.2l trucks didn't drive any today and then went to dodge to looked around.... Lol.... Compared what they had for the line up now doing some reading what's your thoughts on the

The dodge rebel with the hemi looks not terrible seems to perform well has a nest suspension settings

Also really liked the two tone outdoorsmen edition as well

But the new 2017 power wagon looks like a damn beast... What's your thoughts

Actually, DEF is even more inconsequential when it comes to overall cost. $5 a gallon is extreme. I can get it, if I needed it, for $1.89 a gallon at a local heavy truck dealership. Pull up to the door and they will fill up DEF tank on any vehicle... car, pickup, heavy truck, etc.

But that is sideline stuff. The cost if something goes wrong on a Dmax is staggering. And depending on what has failed, downtime can be terrible as well. With modern, emission equipped diesels, the words of Scotty from Star Trek ring true.... "The more complicated the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain." And boy, there are a myriad of ways that can limp mode a modern diesel. More sensors in some of the most bizarre places. And if one of them decides to go south, it messes up the whole thing. When these new diesels are working right, they are fantastic engines. When the littlest thing goes wrong, they can be a nightmare.

Close. "The more they overthink the pluming, the easier it is to stop up the drain."

Yeah, I should've gone back and looked. Memory isn't what it used to be. Just ask my wife. Thanks though for the clip!

Pretty sure the Rebel has an off-road suspension, and a low payload.

The Power Wagon has the 6.4 Hemi which by all accounts is a good motor. But that too also has a soft suspension = low payload.

If you aren't towing, no big deal on the low payloads.

So if you're after a fun truck, get a fun truck: GM 6.2L, Ford Raptor, or a Ram offering. I don't think diesels are "fun" trucks unless you delete everything and tune it. But hey, it's your money, do as you wish. Good luck.

The 6.0 still outpulls the hemi. :driving: A rock solid chassis and drive train count for something.

Believe me I know the feeling, old chap.

While it makes me smile to know that the 6.0 can outperform in towing, the Hemi still has a cool factor to it. For several reasons. The boys over at Dodge trucks had a big goal in mind when they designed the engines and trucks- Make them fun to drive and make them bad ass looking as well. They at least got 2 things right.

The 2 busy dmax forums that I follow (since before the first dpf was released) are not reporting dpf replacements.

In fairness, since 2011 I changed to an LML and quit following the previous generation (LMM) postings.
