2015 with Taillight socket already corroded.

TSB? No way as this is a safety issue. Tail lights are required and if there is a possibility that they fail due to crappy piss poor overseas inferior products due to cost savings attempts, then it will be a recall. If I had a light out because of this and the police pulled me over and gave me a ticket, I would force GM to pay for that ticket (if I had to keep driving waiting for a part).

GM has no shame in penalizing their vendors if they give them crap products for safety issues, even if it is their own fault for sourcing and not properly testing the products. Hopefully it becomes a lesson learned for them through this as every recall is a blemish and costs them potential buyers.

My '14 has already had 3 recalls and one item fixed for a TSB (which is now a recall). Pretty sad.

Yup just like I said a TSB. I can't tell you how many brake lights I see out on a regular basis. No recalls for them on a "required" item. There are 3 brake lights that are on the back of these trucks I bet it only needs 1 to be in working order to trigger a major safety problem it would have to be that none of them are working. Like it or not. GM would only fix your problem and tell you to pound sand on the traffic ticket.

Oh yeah I owned a 14 so I know what you mean by recalls.

Yes sir. State of Kentucky only requires 2 tail lights so even if I fought for a rental they would laugh at me and say I still have 3.

(a) Any motor vehicle may be equipped and when required under this article shall be equipped with the following signal lights or devices:

(1) A brake light on the rear which shall emit a red light and which shall be actuated upon application of the service (foot) brake and which may but need not be incorporated with a taillight; and

(2) A light or lights or mechanical signal device capable of clearly indicating any intention to turn either to the right or to the left and which shall be visible from both the front and the rear.

(b) Every brake light shall be plainly visible and understandable from a distance of 300 feet to the rear both during normal sunlight and at nighttime, and every signal light or lights indicating intention to turn shall be visible and understandable during daytime and nighttime from a distance of 300 feet from both the front and the rear. When a vehicle is equipped with a brake light or other signal lights, such light or lights shall at all times be maintained in good working condition. Yup I fully understand the laws governing lights in Ga. I was a truck mechanic and driver for several years. There are several laws broken every day so I guess we are all law breakers? Do you always stay under the posted speed limit? I bet not. As for what I said. GM, Ford, Dodge, or any OEM you pick is going to repair the problem of an out of service break light if under warranty or you will have to pay to have it fixed if the warranty is expired. I also bet that their definition of an out of service break light also means any one of the ones on the rear are working is good until the problem is fixed. By the way Ga will only give you a "must be fixed" ticket and all you have to do is present that the issue is fixed and it will be taken care of.

There has to be moisture to rust. I used dielectric grease on my old Ram tail light connections. Haven't done it on my chevy but it is amazing stuff

That is the stuff we used on the trucks I used to work on. It works great!

GM definitely has a problem with their rear tail light bulb main sockets corroding. I have a 2015 gmc sierra 2500 hd and i had issues with the right side turn signal main socket corroding and that was 3 years and 6 months after i bought it and of course the warranty had expired with 25,000 miles on it and dealership basically told me we can replace it for you cost of parts and labor, so I got a new left side wiring and connectors and did it myself part was around 75 dollars and took me about an hour to replace. Now i am having the same issue a year and a half latter with the left side so another wiring harness and and another 70 bucks gone. GM doesn't care about their product and i even went as far as filing a complaint with NHTSA, said they would look into it but never heard anything back.

maybe look at how it's corroding, and figure out how to prevent/reduce water from going to that spot/area?

I purchased my GMC Sierra in June of 215, by summer of 2017 the first light bulb went out. I should have looked in to it then but i did not. When several other bulbs went out in December of 2017 I took it to the dealer. It was only 30 months old, but I had around 39,000 miles. They said it was not covered by warranty. I said this is really not millage related, that the corrosion for the Honduras made wiring harness was due to poor quality not millage.

They stilled did not cover it. I am always surprised how much money they spend marking to me, attempting to get me to buy a new truck. I purchase a new rear harness, bulbs and sockets. Replaced everything. Well it is 5 years latter and now I am looking for a new truck. I have had 4 GMC trucks, I purchase a new truck every 5 to 7 years. Time to give Ford a try.

My 2017Silverado had the same thing. Upper passenger side had corrosion in it and didn't work. 35,500 miles and fixed under warranty. Bill said they replaced harness.
