2016 High Country SMOKING, Shame on GM Switching to Ford

I got a 2016 HC and Love the truck but since day one it randomly has ALOT of smoke on start up. Not just a little due to the cold start up i am talking that when in the garage the house fills with smoke the alarms go off have to open the windows and air the house out for 20 min before i can go to work. If it is outside when it does this i can not see the neighbor's home. It is very embarrassing coming out of a store or restaurant and a truck with a 57k window sticker starts up and fogs the entire parking lot... Its been to the dealer 3 times now and GM engineering has now said dont worry about it this is totally normal due to the dual pulse injectors the truck will dump extra fuel at start up make the truck shaker stutter and almost stall and emit alot of smoke to heat up the catalytic system quicker. If this is honestly normal I am sorry to say after 20 years I am done with GM. I should not have to worry if i start my truck will the alarm in the home be triggered and call the fire dept.... I have videos of it doing this and GM has seen them and just said meh no worries.

You got the video? It is hard to believe it smokes that bad where the smoke detectors are set off and they say it is fine (if it is really smoking that bad). Either way, this sounds like everyone else with this type of post. XX number of years of GM life long buyer paid XX amount and so forth, then one bad apple and they jump ship, they expect everything to be perfect or else.... If you had spent 60k your truck would have guaranteed to have been trouble free, you just didn't spend enough!

Hope you find greener pastures but reading today's forums on any model don't expect a trouble free truck...

Totally not normal and surprised the dealer is trying to sell you on that..Can you share the video?

Also, why do you need to show the dealer a video if it has been in there three times with this issue? Couldn't they see for themselves?

I can prob get it on youtube and post a link.... AMX I am not jumping ship due to it having an issue... It could blow up tomorrow and i would but another one if GM would say woa thats not normal we need to fix that and make it right... instead they are telling me dont worry about it.... Its normal due to the cold start emissions system. That is Ridiculous

Is someone higher up in GM telling you that it is normal, like a district manager or is it just the dealer service department telling you that's normal. If it's just the dealer, try another dealer. If it's really as bad as you say and the GM higher ups are telling you that's normal, don't give up, contact the BBB.

Of course it's not normal, but did you not take it for a test drive before signing papers since you say it's been doing it since day 1? Also since it seems like it's an engine issue the sticker cost or trim doesn't matter since you just pay more for features. It's the same 5.3 or 6.2 as in lower trims.

Yes that was taken from in the truck as i backed out of the garage... Again i will post other videos of it coming form the tail pipe when i get home They are on my old phone.... I have had the truck 9 months. It has done it about 9 times. The dealer can not get it to do it on their watch. I have not seen any other silverados smoke this much on start up. I would be ok with a little puff but this is honestly not just normal smoking on start up. It also has done it when I drove to a subway in july got a foot long came out and parking lot fills and i am laughed at.... So its not just a cold start. Again I know things go wrong i know things break and i am 100% ok with that... crap happens... But to tell me dont worry about its normal... lol and when something very bad happens at 37,000 miles then what? If they would stand behind it say we need to figure out out great keep it until you do learn from it i dont care just do something.

Does it do that as bad in hot or even warm weather; even if the truck had been sitting a long time and was considered a cold start, would it smoke like that in warm weather with low humidity.

Just wondering if the current climate conditions have something to do with it, or maybe you haven't had the truck long enough to have it in warm weather, I don't know.

What does it smell like, smoke or exuast fumes.

Don't want to scare you but you should invest in a couple of carbon monoxide detectors, that stuff is serious and is a silent killer. Maybe you shouldn't park in the garage for a while until you get this resolved or know it's safe.

My Fiancé and I were behind a new Sierra a few weeks ago, and it smoked really bad. It stunk too, smelled like oil.
