I have a 2016 Silverado 1500 I've been trying to locate a squeak noise. Dealership told me it's my leaf springs but it only happens when I give it throttle. Anyone have any sort of advice. When listening to pin point it comes from all sides!! It's getting on my nerves badly!

Have you had a friend with you to try and pin point the sound location? I had someone help me yesterday pin point a different issue and it was very helpful. Have them either inside or outside the truck. In my instance they were under the truck with the E brake on as I lightly pressed the gas and they were able to pin point the issue.

My father was in the truck with me radio down windows open and we both heard it on our own sides of the vehicle. Possibly coming from the center?

Put your trip meter screen up; at the bottom right you'll see it says V4 or V8.

As you apply throttle; if you hear the squeek happen and see the icon switch from V4 to V8 then that means it's the exhaust flapper. If so you can clamp the flapper open to confirm the noise has stopped.

I'll try that in the morning!! Thanks for the opinions and advice

Well, do you have the infamous V4 to V8 exuast flapper squeek or is it something else?

From the looks of things yes I do I changed my screen to see if it followed v4 to v8 and lo and behold it does lmao

Well, that's luckily that's easy to fix. In my opinion just clamp it open; if you go to the dealer they may replace your catback but that doesn't mean that will fix it; at least in my case when they replaced my catback on my 2015 the squeek went away but a louder more annoying rattling replaced the squeek. That's why I recommend just clamping it open; just my opinion.

They told me it was dirt getting inside my leaf springs. But ehhh next time I'll go for my annual oil change I'm going to tell them it's not my suspension. Possibly in due time I'll change out the exhaust for something where I can tell the truck is running at a red light.

These trucks have problems with the leaf spring bushings squeaking too. But based on what you found I would say your noise is definitely the Passive Exhaust Valve. Just show the dealership the TechLink that was linked above.

It doesn't hurt anything but is really annoying. I have been living with mine for a few months now. My dealer knows about it and will replace it whenever I give the word be he isn't sure the new valve won't start to squeak too.

Thanks for the exhaust flap "squeak" heads up. My truck just hit 80,000 kms, and almost like someone threw a switch......there's that noise. I would guess there is no code or CEL related to this? And, is this just a noise and no mechanical issue for the future? Like a few other small annoyances, I prefer to "let 'er buck"!

Was the rear springs well and spray silicone lubricant into them and see if it goes away. This is only a temporary fix but it will tell you if it is the springs.

Just had my exhaust replaced for this problem. Or you can buy the range afm disabler for $189 and you truck will stay in v8 so no squeak. If you clamp the valve open you will have a helicopter noise in v4 the flapper prevents otherwise.

Another free way to disable AFM is to shift down into manual and lock out 8th gear aka set it to 'M7' (6th gear on 6-speed transmissions, 'M5').
