Ok. Really confused. Pin #3 does not operate puddle lights. Also confused that my parking lights come one when I start truck with remote then turn off after a few seconds. Is this why I need the rzy harness to make them work all the time?

Hi....new here. I have an early 2015 2500 hd Diesel ( pre 8/14). I have black camper style mirrors with glass turn signal, power adjust top and defrost ( heat). I bought upgraded new style mirrors. No power fold and no temp sensor since pre 8/14. My question is, is the only harness I need is the rzy harness to make cargo and running lights work? My new mirrors came with puddle lights but they have a separate wire for them. Is there a way to wire into existing plug for those? I just checked my harness and I have a pin in #3 and #41. No pin in #9 or#11. I assume I can connect my puddle light to wire on #3. TIA

Ok.  Let me try to explain the best way I can...

Many folks get the term "puddle" lamp confused for what it actually is.  The Puddle Lamp, in how GM intends its behavior, is a light that shines downward (toward the ground).  This light generally only comes on at night - when you unlock the doors with key or open your door.  It is intended to light the ground for puddles of water.  Many will use the term "puddle" for the amber forward shining light.  That light is a Running Light.  Sometimes, it's referred to a Park Lamp or Marker Lamp.  The White LED light that shines rearward is the Cargo Lamp.  Sometimes referred to as the Courtesy Light, Reverse Light or Flood Light.

Now - the puddle light circuit on pin 3 of the door harness - Is a Puddle Light circuit.

Pin 9 - is the Cargo Light, Pin 11 is the Running light.  These two circuits will be absent in the body side of the connector.

Pin 41 is the turn signal.

The RZY Harness is a harness by GM that essentially is installed to the missing pins 9, 11, and 41 slots.  In ALL cases of trucks I've worked on and observed, pin 41 has always been present...So that wire gets taped off and unused in the RZY.

Pin 9 - Cargo Light lands in the X61A Junction Box in the driver side footwell while Pin 11 - Running Lamp goes through the firewall and into the X50A Fuse Block.

I hope this helps.  Without knowing more about the new mirrors you have, it's hard to say what the next steps are.  If you have a model # of the mirror or link to the mirror, that might help me understand what you have and what your next steps would be.  Also, if you have part #s to your factory harnesses, that would be helpful as well.

Thanks,

Phil

Thanks Phil. I got the puddle lights working tonight. I am assuming the rzy harness will give me pin #9 and #11 which will give me running lights and cargo lights. Everything else is working great now so far.

That's correct.  Sounds like you got a Trail Ridge mirror from 1A Auto or AM Auto?

Phil - I just found this thread after researching towing mirror upgrades. I have a 2018 Sierra Denali ultimate with the powerfold std mirrors. As I said, I want to upgrade to the OEM towing mirrors. I’m going with the oem towing mirrors as I want to also add the intellihaul 3 camera system with the mirror mounted cameras. I’ve read several threads about what I need to have all the mirror functions I have with my current mirrors work (heat, glass signals, marker lights, cargo lightspower fold, memory, and reverse tilt - I understand I will lose the puddle lights with the oem towing mirrors, correct?) and I’m even more confused. Can you tell me what part number oem mirrors I need and what door harnesses? I assume that sine I have an Denali ultimate, I have all the required wires in the car side harness?

thanks in advance - your research and knowledge is amazing!

You are correct in that you'll lose the downward shining puddle lamp.  If you went with the aftermarket set from 1A Auto/AM Auto, they have a set with puddle lamps, support memory along with the rest of the features found on an OEM GM DQS Mirrors.

As for part #s, they change pretty frequently.  So I stopped keeping track of them because there are so many.

I ended up setting up an arrangement with a GM Part Supplier to get these new from GM, drop shipped.

DQS - Power Fold GM Tow Mirrors, $1058 - drop shipped to anywhere in the lower 48.  Can be black textured caps or Chrome caps.  Same price.

Harnesses are $285 shipped by me to anywhere in the US.  $100 of this is refunded by me if you send me your factory harnesses.

Thanks Phil. The only reason I was going with the oem mirrors is because I am also purchasing the Intelllihaul 3 camera system and the mirror cameras replace the oem mirror bottom caps.

How do I buy the mirrors and the harnesses through you?

I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 LT Double Cab All Star, with DL8 mirrors, and I would like to upgrade to DPN towing mirrors.  Am I correct that I would only need the new mirrors and each sides new harness, but not the RZY harness? I read your first post, and looked at the provided dropbox links, but the model years stop at 2016. Thanks in advance.

You are correct.  RZY Harness is only needed for 2014 and some early 2015 who are missing the cargo light and running light circuits at the door jamb (cabin side).

I also have a Supplier that can get DPN Mirrors for $495 (Black Textured Caps) or $555 (Chrome Caps).

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response, I will let you know if I end up moving along with it.

Phil - need some help as I’m still a little unclear (it’s a lot of information when I thought this was a plug and play mod!)

i have a 2014 GMC all terrain edition which I think is similar to the SLT. I have power fold, heated and turn signal mirrors and want to upgrade to aftermarket towing mirrors since cost is better.

I was weighing my options between power and manual. Would they both need extra harnesses or is it plug in play since I already have power folding? Just need help picking out the right options and harnesses I need to make it work. Most likely leaning towards manual folding since the price is Probly more economical.

Thanks for the help!

Since you're a 2014, your upgrade path will be more.

First - you will need door harnesses to accommodate the tow mirror lighting features.  Tow mirrors have turn signal (which you already have), running light and cargo light.  The running light and cargo light you don't have now and why you need new door harnesses for that.

But...since you're 2014, your door jamb will NOT have the cargo light and running light circuits landed.  This is where the RZY jumper harnesses is needed.  The installation of the RZY is intensive as you have to land it to both door jambs, under the hood (in the fuse block), and into a junction box in the driver side footwell.

So while it is "Plug and Play" - meaning, no programming/flashing of modules are needed, getting circuits landed to slots will be needed.

Hope this helps.

Ok. I’m sure I can figure it out. You sell this harness as well?

Is there a particular brand of aftermarket mirrors that work best? I noticed the a1 autos but I don’t like how they don’t have the turn signal integrated into the mirror glass.

I found these that were more in my orice price range as well: https://www.protuninglab.com/20chsigmcsi1.html?utm_source=googlepepla&utm_medium=adwords&id=140891675818&gclid=Cj0KCQiAoo7gBRDuARIsANeJKUbPCcBmu-d0_1DizTtKLMe7jwmjjPzqtmS-UHAH3RWXTKs0MGdGC8gaAl0wEALw_wcB

any input here is appreciated! Thanks

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
