Full 100% power outage sounds like a grounding issue.

The entire circuit went dead even with the alternator running this would indicate that even that was interrupted..

Hit grade difference going into the lot and it lost contact for a second.

There are people on here having ground leads replaced to fix issues similar to this.

Unfortunately no, it happened for the first time a month or so out of the bumper to bumper warranty. I'm getting it fixed at the dealer instead of doing it myself in case the cables aren't the end of the issues. Hopefully then I'd some recourse if they are replacing parts that aren't the end problem. Electrical issues tend to be a pain in my experience.

For what it's worth, this exact issue has shown up quite a few times on this board on trucks still under warranty. It sounds as if this issue is known by GM. You might politely plead your case to see if they'll cover a portion of the bill.

Knowledge is king, politely let them know about the many ecm loose grounding bolts not torqued properly!

Good luck

:shakehead: I just can't believe they charged $679 to change 2 wires. :freak: And why did they change both wires if they told you the ground wire was bad? Maybe your bill would have only been $339.50...smiley7521_zpsf40042e6.gif

I was turning off the highway today in front of a school bus and my truck just shut off. Electronic Power steering obviously went off too, very lucky I didn’t crash. I quickly put truck in neutral while rolling and started it right up like nothing was wrong. There was a message that came up that said to roll window down and back up. Called the Dealership and the do not know what is wrong. This seems like a BIG BIG safety issue GM!!! So now I’m going to have to drive my truck to the dealership and hope that I am on my A game if it decides to shut off again. Truck is out of warranty unfortunately.

Anyone else having this issue lately?

GM you need to fix this problem before someone gets hurt from the issue.

Same issue! That’s how I found these threads!! I have a 2016 Silverado 1500 LT 4x4 and was pulling up to a stop sign and the entire truck shut off and all components. Went and bought a brand new battery and it won’t even turn over now! Seriously GM wth!!

I have the same issue with my 2014.It completely shuts down.I checked the battery and the negative post was extremely hot.I gave the negative battery cable a slight tug and everything came back on immediately. The battery cables were secure at both ends.I took it to dealership and was told, after diagnostics, that both of my cables were bad,as well as the generator battery control  wiring harness.I have the platinum warranty which excludes battery cables. This truck only has 60k miles on it.This is the quote:

2014 Silverado LT with very similar problems. Headlights also dim and flicker when applying the brake or using the turn signals. Some have said the negative battery cable needs replaced. mine looks fine when I took it off and cleaned both ends. Probably going to the dealership since I really don't have the time to mess with it.

I had similar shutoff issues with my 2015 Silverado.  I followed instructions to check the two ground wires connections under the dash, sure enough they had some insulation stuck under both sides.  I cleaned them up and though I had fixed the issue..... Unfortunately not!  the truck continued to reset and shutoff while driving.  Then I found this ground wire behind the right front wheel well.  I removed it to find that the undercoating was between it and the ground wire!!!! hello GM!!  I cleaned it all of of the connector and the truck and reconnected.  3 weeks later what was a daily issue has not re-surfaced.  hope this helps some of you, this is a dangerous problem.

I have been having the same issue and I went back to the dealership time and time again and they didn’t put anything in the system and I went there AGAIN today just so they can get it fixed and they told me pretty much to **** off

I am really tired of this happening and it’s happened twice just today luckily both times the truck decided to automatically start back up while I was driving 75+ down a couple highways with 18 wheelers behind me but I’m just curious what would’ve happened If the truck didn’t start back up just like yesterday when I pulled into the parking lot of my local college and missed my class because of it

    • Whoever greenlighted the work truck matte black front bumpers on every trim but the AT4X should be fired!  I was hoping that was an AI mistake, but just realized they were on every model of the 2027 Silverado too.     Some parts of the interior do look premium, but the Denali Ultimate dashboard looks like an afterthought.  At least they appear to have lost the microfiber the high end Silverado models showed, but the '27 High Country dash looks better than the Denali.
    • New member here. I am researching a read-first event-recorder concept for late-model GM V8 trucks. This is not a sales post. There is no product link, price, preorder, or mailing list. I am trying to determine whether the underlying problem is real before building anything.   Has your truck ever had a brief problem such as: - rough running or a momentary misfire - an oil-pressure warning or unusual pressure event - reduced power or a brief stall - a U-code or lost-communication problem - a symptom that disappeared before the dealer or independent shop could reproduce it   If so, I would appreciate the following details: - year, model, engine, and mileage - what happened and under what conditions - whether a DTC and useful freeze-frame data were stored - whether the shop was able to reproduce it - what the eventual confirmed repair was, if known - what additional information would have helped the diagnosis   The concept being evaluated is a removable leave-in recorder that continuously retains a rolling window from before and after an event. It would not tune, reflash, clear codes, or change the vehicle calibration.   I am also not claiming that it could predict lifter failure or see every internal ECM variable.   The real question is whether continuous event history would add enough useful evidence beyond freeze frame, GDS2, and existing scan tools — or whether it would simply be another unnecessary gadget.   For owners and technicians, which problem would make something like this genuinely useful: 1. intermittent misfire or AFM/DFM-related behavior 2. oil-pressure events 3. lost communication or electrical faults 4. none of the above Please be blunt. Negative feedback is just as useful as positive feedback.
    • No tears over the SLE and SLT trim levels disappearing but I kind of loathe the "Elevation" name. It's a truck--skip the elegance.   The slab-dashboard design is decidedly different. Almost has a Hummer flavor to it. "Professional Grade" seems to be leaning very white-collar, tech-driven these days moreso than blue-collar, functional design.   The Silverado would be my choice between the two new trucks. Pleased with the engine lineup in both. The GMC is a little "too much" for a truck, IMO, and the Denali borders on ridiculous - but I do know there are buyers for luxury trucks out there. It's just not my speed.

    • - I like the outside but not as much as the Chevrolet.  They ICE'd the EV styling and it works, but I think exterior goes to Chevy on this one.     - SLE and SLT dead = Not.  Surprising.  Fits into the rest of the GMC lineup like this which (aside from Pro) matches the rest of the family.  Elevation, AT4, Denali.     - Interior.  Sophisticated Malaise era.  Why do I say Malaise?  Drawn with a ruler.  Rectangles everywhere.  Looks very premium though.
