I believe Ford is running the TorqShift-G trans. In its pickups. TorqShift-G is supposedly a Ford built trans.

The 2017 F250 looks pretty good in the right trim. I still prefer the GM HD styling (minus the new hood scoop).

There are things Ford generally does better than GM, such as the rear seat on the crew cabs - flat floors, vents, and plenty of space. They also hide the DEF tank and the frame a little better. Also the axle up front vs. IFS. But GM's 6.0/Duramax combo is tough to beat.

GM's first use of the 10 speed will be in the Camaro ZL1. The LT4 rated at 650hp/650ft-lb.

The Camaro ZL1 LT4 gets the 10R90 (MGL) auto, or the TR6060 (MJK) manual.

I've owned several Ford Super Duty trucks, and shortly, I'll be ordering another one.

The GMC is a decent truck, but not remotely in the same league as Ford.

My GMC howls from the left front wheel well, maybe actually drowning out the seats rattling...

Stuff that I can live with, but why should I?

A new 18' F-350 Platinum will be in my driveway this fall.

Nope, at this point only the 8 speed in the 1500 is a jointly developed transmission. The 6 speed in the trucks is not. I have seen rumors that the 6 liter 6 speed will be replaced with the 10 speed in the in the 2500/3500 trucks in the next redesign along with a new gas engine.

The 8 Speed is not a jointly developed trans. The 10 Speed yes, the 8 Speed no.

the 6.0 is well overdue for an update .

I hope they stick the 6.2 in there for the HD gas option. Even if its detuned a bit for durability . Ive driven two 6.0 HD trucks and came back disappointed.

I would be in a HD gasser if the 6.0 had more guts. Yes I know its dependable but 380lb of torque from your GAS HD engine is weak.

It's an iron-block engine configured for heavy duty use. If that's not your cup of tea, buy something else. The aluminum block engines will not hold up to the type of use a 6.0 will.

Maybe you're more of a Colorado/Canyon type of guy, I hear that 3.6 is wonderful.

I have hard time believing GM cant develop the 6.2 to be extra durable. However your right the 6.0 was not my cup of tea , in fact it was like soft white tea. No guts . so I ended up "settling" for a 6.2 ..Night and day difference . And the Colorado is not my cup of tea either. But thanks for thinking about me . Its wonderful you did .

ever heard of a 366 tall deck? old dump truck engine. they used to last forever. instead of using the tall deck to make a really long stroke and more torque or power, they used a really tall piston with a substantial ring pack. the piston didn't rock in the bore nearly as much as a passenger car or light duty truck engine, so running those dump trucks at 3500 RPM all day under heavy loads didn't hurt a thing.

point is, GM engineers know what they are doing, and there are a lot of considerations other than just looking at power curves that go into getting it right. your truck will probably be just fine, enjoy it. but don't kid yourself into believing the current iteration of the 6.2 is appropriate for HD use. It isn't. I am sure you can blow right past all of us 6.0 guys on the freeway today. If you consistently use your truck like an HD truck, in 20 years a lot of us will still be going and your 6.2 will be shot. That's the choice you made.

I think that Ford and Dodge need to upgrade their gas engines to compete with the good ol' 6.0. They both don't tow or haul as well so there really is no reason to put the 6.2 in there. The 6.2 isn't a HD engine it wouldn't last under extreme conditions expecially with the AFM and DI. Most 1/2 ton trucks are mall wagons and when used like a 3/4 ton they don't last. I see guys using 1/2 tons here for snowplowing, they are usually completely destroyed within 2 years- the frame is twisted up so bad the doors won't close properly.
