Dodge, Ram has the most exciting vehicles across the board. Ram has a hemi in everything from 2 door truck on up. They have 2 and 4 door cars that go from 6 cylinders to 700 horsepower more available to the masses. Jeep and Durango same thing. The 300, same thing 6 cylinders to SRT. Ford and Chevy don't come close to the amount of options for fun. Reliable is a toss up across the brands. Believe it or not I'm a GM guy and a realist.

In my view, from least exciting to most exciting:

GM

Ford

Dodge

And from least reliable to most reliable:

Dodge

Ford

GM

I don't need exciting. I want to get in my truck 200k miles from now, drive deep into the north Idaho wilderness, and not have the first inkling of doubt about whether my truck will get me back out. I bought a Chevy.

After owning a few Fords I could never go back:

2004 F-150 5.4 Triton- Worst motor design ever

2004 F-350 6.0 Diesel - Junk engine

2008 F250 V10- Major brake issues

Absolutely love my 15 6.0 Chevy

Looking at durability, towing and reliability, you can not beat the Duramax/Allison combo! The visual improvements for Ford do nothing in my book when the head gaskets on their new trucks are getting replaced at 30K miles.

I just bought a 2017 Silverado hd gas truck off the lot. I had a 2004 duramax which was twice the truck that the new one is. they cheapened up the seats and the interior trim. tried buying a truck off the lot with a lighter color. only color is black (which I hate) seats are hard like a rock from the old chevy commercial. tried ordering a new truck but if you order the all star package you get black interior. gm is going backwards. changed the box again. my topper doesn't fit. they narrowed the back of the box so that I have to do a lot of work on my camper to get it to slide in. truck is way too high. the top of the running boards was 19 inches off the ground. a standard chair is 18 inches. so to get in you have to step higher than a chair. told dealer I wasn't happy. they ignored me. well theyre getting the factory running board back. still looking for some that really drop down. only ones I found are the power ones. don't the gm engineers ever use one of these trucks. if they are fussy they will be very disappointed in the quality of there product. ive been a gm person my whole life but am disappointed in there new trucks. I complained on my 2004 that it was too high and the 2017 is 4 inches higher. maybe that's why ford outsells gm every year.

Hi Gary - did you consider actually looking at your truck before you bought it?

The tailgate opening width was narrowed and the bed rails raised in... 2007. So every GMC for the past decade has had the same internal bed dimensions as your truck.

The truck is high because the new frame design (which is ridiculously stronger than what your 2004 had) is taller. The new truck also has more ground clearance.

Do you have a link that explains more? I noticed the ground clearance seemed awfully good on my 2016, which was one of the reasons I bought it. I also heard the front diff now has an iron center section. I do a little offroading here and there and these were both nice to know, one of the reasons I went GM in addition to my past positive experiences with GM quality. Not to mention standard 4.10's and rear locker!

my last truck was a 2004 and the trim quality and the cloth seats were far superior than the 17 I have now and the 04 was just an ls

It is a matter of opinion. My 04 2600ls certainly did not have better cloth or trim than the new trucks. The seat cloth was almost worn through and separated at the seam before 60k miles. The dash had some rattles and squeeks as well and was made of hard plastic. My new truck seems much better in quality. Maybe you are looking for a reason to switch brands? You should trade in and be happy.

I have to agree about the seats my 98,01.04.07 had far more comfy seats than my 14. That and GM leather seats wear out by 100K miles is why I would buy GM trucks with cloth. The rest of the 14 GMC I had was far superior thou.

I disagree, Fords are not butt ugly. I do prefer the ford's interior to that of the GM/Chev. The lights on the Ford are far superior to that of the GMC/Chev. adn for the LONG OF GOD, GM WILL YOU ADD A FRICKIN LOCKING DIFF!!! I had an F150 and I could lock my diff in 2wd, as can the 250 and 350! Most sueful thing I have ever seen!!! The anti-spin axles just don't do the job!

But no matter what anyone says... I have Never in my LIFE seen a better looking Truck that the Chevy 2500 LTZ Midnight! OMG!!! Especially with the hood scoop!!! DRROOOLLLL!!!

Getting one soon!!!

P.S. Ford and GM are sharing transmissions now, so hopefully they will help each other out!

The cloth in the GMT-800s were FAR superior to that of the GMT-900s. Haven't seen cloth seats in the new ones. I loved the cloth in my 99 Silverado. Very comfy and durable. On my 2012 the cloth on the drivers seat is worn down and on the sides it has worn away, exposing the foam.
